So, after discussing Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, it made me think of these. I know I've mentioned it before, but my folks are from Michigan, dad's side for an unknown amount of time, and mom's side from when Granddad and Grandmother immigrated from Scotland and the Isle of Man.
Anywho, we ended up moving back up there for dad's work from 89-92, while he helped with the capital building renovation. Cool for my brother and I as we're native Texans, and never saw much snow. A lot of stuff was pitched until the bigwigs there got the idea to auction off a lot of the stuff. Dad brought home all sorts of things, enough to do additions to the farmhouse and barn. He also brought home these carpets from the House side, if I recall correctly. He framed them, and hung them. Couple of shots of him And lastly, these were handed out when the guys finished. Pictures of the capital building through its history. The middle one is a nice letter from the governer thanks all the guys for the work they did. |

I also tried to get some of the things from the renovation, but I was living in Rhode Island at the time...The carpets are very cool. The renovation was a big undertaking and your Dad was part of that...cool

The Detroit I knew is long gone.No more downtown Hudson's,Vernor's is long gone,& a host of other things have become just lore.Thank goodness for fond memories! I hear ya, Goat. I used to live in Jackson, Michigan, and both sets of my grandparents lived in Lincoln Park, a southern suburb of Detroit. We always took frequent trips there to visit them over there in Detroit. Hard to believe I used to love that city. I always had fun there, did a lot. But now it's gone, everyone I knew there has either moved away or passed on. And the city is decaying, it's like no one cares anymore. Maybe one day Detroit will shine again, but not any time soon. I miss the memories I had of the way it used to be for me there. It would take too long to go into all the things I loved, but lets just say I was happy there for about 20 years, then it all changed. |

My bosses are idiots. Can't make a fixed schedule, and don't have the decency to let you know when someone isn't going to be in. It was NOT a good morning. Tomorrow morning had better be better. |

Family was talking about the possibility of them razing Flint. Any more news on that? As much as I don't think that would be a bad idea....it isn't going to happen. There are still too many people there. They might raze some of the neighborhoods, though. |
