How times change.. I found this little nugget and thought I would share it with you..
Bush looks offshore for oil remedy President urges Congress to lift offshore drilling ban. updated 4:22 p.m. ET, Wed., June 18, 2008 WASHINGTON - With gasoline topping $4 a gallon, President Bush urged Congress on Wednesday to lift its long-standing ban on offshore oil and gas drilling, saying the United States needs to increase its energy production. Democrats quickly rejected the idea. “There is no excuse for delay,” the president said in a statement in the Rose Garden. With the presidential election just months away, Bush made a pointed attack on Democrats, accusing them of obstructing his energy proposals and blaming them for high gasoline costs. His proposal echoed a call by Republican presidential candidate John McCain to open the Continental Shelf for exploration “Families across the country are looking to Washington for a response,” Bush said. AND HERE IS THE DUMBOCRAT RESPONSE.. Congressional Democrats were quick to reject the push for lifting the drilling moratorium, saying oil companies already have 68 million acres offshore waters under lease that are not being developed. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called Bush’s proposals “another page from (an)... energy policy that was literally written by the oil industry — give away more public resources.” SO NANCY THINKS OFFSHORE DRILLING IS JUST ANOTHER PAGE FROM THE OIL INDUSTRIES PLAYBOOK>> LET US SEE WHAT CANDIDATE OBAMNATION HAS TO SAY ON THE SUBJECT>> “This is not something that’s going to give consumers short-term relief and it is not a long-term solution to our problems with fossil fuels generally and oil in particular,” said Obama. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, lumping Bush with McCain, accused them of staging a “cynical campaign ploy” that won’t help lower energy prices. “Despite what President Bush, John McCain and their friends in the oil industry claim, we cannot drill our way out of this problem,” Reid said. “The math is simple: America has just three percent of the world’s oil reserves, but Americans use a quarter of its oil.” http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25241280/ AS YOU CAN SEE THE LEFT WING IS REELING AND WILL THROW ALL CAUTION TO THE WIND TO HELP SAVE THEIR A$$ES COME NOVEMBER.. WHEN GAS PRICES WERE $4 A GALLON THEY WEREN'T INTERESTED IN DRILLING OFFSHORE, BUT ALL OF THE SUDDEN THEY JUST MAGICALLY HAVE CHANGED THEIR POSITION. |

two things he has done that I like
he nationalized financial aid for students and agreed to expanded offshore drilling so far he is striking me as a pretty moderate liberal and seems to be doing okay the left is howling that he has betrayed the environment and the right is howling that he didnt do enough. I figure if they are both pizzed off then he prolly made a good compromise on a side note, if oil drilling is so bad for the environment then why when hurricane Katrina hit over three hundred offshore platforms in the gulf, why wasn't even a single drop of oil spilled? |

yeah,,,dont compromise and you are being partisan
compromise and you are flip flopping a no win situation,,,,,this seems a like a compromise that was struck as a means to an end,,,,not a huge issue |

'The ONE' has NO INTENTION of drilling and exploiting OUR OWN natural resources. If he were, he'd open up Alaska, ANWR, the coasts of FL and CA, and also the Bakken Shale deposits in ND.
His motivation with this bogus 'proposal' for 'drilling' (why just a SECTION of the Gulf, btw?) is just a smokescreen to attract ONE Republican vote (like Lindsey Grahamnesty or Olympia Snowe or Susan Collins - or [gasp] John McShame) so he can (1) block a potential filibuster, and (2) claim it was passed with 'bipartisan' support. Maybe one day the 'pubs will learn the lesson that, to Dems, 'bipartisan' is only code language for 'do it MY way'. This needs to fail, and fail miserably. Let the 'craps own this one, too. If it passes, YOUR taxes will increase between $1,600 and $1,700 per year ... and for what? For 'The ONE' to give it to people who love to eat but hate to work. |

if I remember right from CNN this mornin he DID open up Alaska to offshore drilling. They had a rep from Diamond Offshore Drilling (Red Adair's old company) who said he expected Alaska to become the new Texas for oil production

Ummm, not so much ... it's still off-limits.
http://abcnews.go.com/WN/Politics/obama-opens-offshore-drilling-oil-gas-exploration/story?id=10249811 The Department of Interior will also allow seismic exploration for oil and gas in the Outer Continental Shelf from Delaware south to the tip of Florida, to assess the quantity and location of potential oil and gas resources. The agency will continue lease sales in the central and western Gulf of Mexico, and will open up two-thirds of the resources in this region should Congress lift the moratorium imposed upon it. The administration may also the eastern Gulf of Mexico, 150 miles west of the Florida coast, for possible drilling as well. At the same time, the administration canceled a lease sale in Alaska's Bristol Bay because of environmental concerns but approved one in Alaska's Cook Inlet. Lease sales in Alaska's Chukchi and Beaufort Seas are suspended pending further scientific review. All in all, more than 400 million acres of ocean may be opened for offshore drilling. |
