Wow, you are very passionate huh?...

Well, I share the sentiment about the bill getting this far, kind of like how I felt when OBama won the nomination,,, Im going reserve my THRILL for when it is actually so and the bill has passed its FINAL votes,, like when OBama was finally sworn in.

We have made a step, but we arent there yet,,,

It wont be there until the the court battles are done, which will work it's way to the Supreme Court, and we already know how thats going to play out(Conservatives have the majority) and this unconstitutional bill will be put down.

I think it will pass, just as the seatbelt laws, the laws regarding the 'war on drugs' and the patriot act,,,all of which could be argued to be 'unconstitutional' because the constitution doesnt mention them specifically.

Its possible it wont, it made me nervous that OBama publicly spoke to the supreme court regarding dont ask dont tell policy,,that could hurt this bill if they are petty enough to hold grudges(which attorneys and judges have been known to do)

Its all up for legal argument, it just depends upon which side has more numbers,,,basically.

And Republicans have more numbers on the court it's a 5-4 vote in favor of Republicans. This bill is dead.

It also didn't help that Obama used his State of the Union address to attack the branch of government that will end up deciding the fate of this bill. laugh

The Supreme Court is not of a party..it's not meant to be and you guys seem to act like you still own things...you don't...well except for the disasters you caused....no, they just interpret the Constitution. The bill will stand...may not even be heard.

Try a civics class sometime.

Seriously? You don't think the Supreme Court votes down party lines? laugh

Not to mention one of the justices's wife is part of an PAC fighting this bill. laugh

How did the American people win if they weren't even playing in the game? The American people should have had a vote on this issue. How many Americans don't even watch news or have any idea what just happened? Not sure they are going to be too happy to when they start getting bills from our government to pay mandatory insurance for the rest of their lives. From what I have read anyone making over $10,000 a year would have to buy insurance.

Bull Honky!!! That's not the way government works, especially not in this country, never has. In case you need to be reminded, we are NOT a government of Consensus or populace, we are a republic, and definitely not a democracy, despite what you might believe. The tears of sorrow from the republicons taste rather sweet these days. laugh

It wont taste rather sweet in November or when this bill gets thrown out because it's inconstitutional.

What? That's the republicons' leverage? November? OK. Try it. I'm sure you have learned by now, the democrats are numb to the concerns, taunts, and threats. In the end the republicans are the party of no, and more and more people are seeing that. So if you would like to continue the fantasy that republicans are going to make a come-back in November, by all means, don't let us liberals stop you. We tried to listen to you guys, but you had to go and do the things you do, and that is why you are in the situation you're in today.

Well, politics is a nasty business. There are many MANDATES that arent constitutional and therefore are passed on to the states,, the way the government still gets their mandate is setting requirements for funding to the states in order to get them to comply(e.g. withholding highway funds to states who didnt raise their drinking age).

It could become a very dirty and nasty fight,, but I hope it doesnt come to that and people just agree to pay for the good of society (like I will have to do next year for taxes which go to schools MY kids dont attend, or for highways I dont travel). not all laws break down to each INDIVIDUAL's interest , some still consider the good of the SOCIETY.

taxes are mandateed FEDERALLY, where does the constitution mention this?....nowhere, yet we survive just fine

why did the states mandate auto insurance? Because GOVERNMENT set regulations for highway funding REQUIRING them to...

The constitution can only go so far, there are many areas which are vague enough to include those things not SPECIFICALLY mentioned,,so the legal experts can debate them,,,

Seriously? Did you not watch the election results in 2009? When Republicans won 4 out of the 5 campaigns, most of them in Liberal states? Not to mention the one that we lost was one we tanked.

Ut's inly a sign of whats to come this November. Good luck to Obama passing anything after that. laugh

The American people won, not the legislatures.

The American people should have medical care at all times, no matter what their economic situation.

This bill is far from what is needed but it is the first step and the hardest one.

Now we will be able to use it to make all the right changes.

This american did not win.

You all are quite happy that my freedom of choice is gone.

shows me where your real heart is.

Thanks.

YOU CANT FORCE COMPLIANCE WITH THE WHIP OF GOVERNMENT. Compliance must come from the will of the people.

And it was not with this bill.

there is no question that America as a whole did not want this bill. (unless you suscribe to a very skewed polling company).

federal tax is not covered in the constitution but we pay it for the good of the SOCIETY, those without kids are still contributing to the education of our societies kids, those who are shut in at home still pay for the taxes which repair roads,,,,,,as I said before, its a tricky business and the bottom line is MONEY

If the feds show where COMMERCE, that is what they contribute to the states by way of subsidies and funding can be POSITIVELY affected by certain guidelines, the guidelines will pass...either on a federal level or on a highly PERSUADED(cut back of government fundings to..) State level,,, but if the government is investing money into an industry ,,as it does healthcare and education, it definitely has the say of how and when it will continue to invest

We all have the choice in our personal investments to withdraw them if we dont see them making enough of a return,,,the government will retain this choice regaring industries it invests in

because we are the UNITED states , the society, the whole society has to matter as much as the individual... If states were completely financially independent they may have more a leg to stand on,,but since the states rely on FEDERAL funding for certain industries,, the federal government will have an argument to impose certain regulations for continuing that funding
