"(CNN) -- The Pennsylvania woman who dubbed herself Jihad Jane is an American who lived literally on Main Street in an apartment where she spent much time online, posting messages saying she was "desperate to do something" to help Muslims.

Colleen LaRose, a 46-year-old who converted to Islam, has been indicted, accused of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and kill a person in a foreign country, the Justice Department announced Tuesday.

She was not well known in her neighborhood in Pennsburg, an hour north of Philadelphia. One of her neighbors reacted to the news by saying, "It scares the hell out of me."

LaRose was arrested October 15, officials say, but that was kept under wraps to protect another ongoing investigation. She's in custody in Philadelphia and faces arraignment in a week."

Ol' Jane (Colleen, obviously) is in a wee bit of trouble. We all know you are innocent until proven guilty, but pretend you were a juror. Do you think she's guilty? Weigh in on this if you have an opinion and are following this story.

I think it doesn't look good for her, and the allegations are only part of it. She's said and done some rather peculiar things regarding terrorist recruitment and support and she blind-sided her boyfriend. "You think you know someone" seems to apply in this case. The fact that she converted to Islam is NOT a red flag. But her odd behavior and internet communication content, is. This may be another instance of stopping something before it started. If so, good catch.

this is one of the reasons i detest american converts but i know someone who has corresponded with this person. She's not an online convert and she doesn't practice islam. This is a mentally disturbed person and there's no real evidence that anyone who "followed" her committed any crimes. Just like the majority of converts that get on the internet and use Islam as a crutch to spread their insantiy and hate , they're looking for fame pure and simple. Islam doesn't teach this behavior.

Accused is the key word used here...wanting to "help" Muslims is not a crime. We are NOT at war with Islam. People seem to forget that.

I know this all too well, my brother, but her actions show she is probably guilty in what she did, and her heart was not genuine in accepting the teachings of the Qu'ran or the wisdom of Allah. Her motives were selfish and destructive, and for that she should be condemned. Perpetuating or encouraging a violent Jihad is not being a good Muslim, and she deserves punishment for her actions. People convert all the time, and many are true and devoted to their new faith, so I wouldn't be so quick to pre-judge "converts."

I agree. You simply cannot just judge a specific group of people like that. At least I don't.

To be clear, one who converts to Islam does not make them any less of a Muslim, because they were not born and raised a Muslim. Their actions however do make them more or less of a Muslim.

Converting online is pretty darned lazy and shallow, it would seem. And I thought drive-thru wedding chapels were insane. Read more on this story, and you'll see how sick and demented this alcoholic psycho was. I hope she gets what she deserves - up to a million dollar fine and life in prison. And she's not helping muslims, she's in it for herself for fame and notoriety. Sorry, Jane, you lose. Her arraignment is coming up on March 18th.

only thing she's guilty of is being stupid and if that's a crime then half of the country's population is guilty. The only thing she's really done is rile people up..if someone carried out something just cause she said to, does that make her guilty? If i can recall, several shootings happened because O'Reilly and Limbaugh riled people up yet the GOP came quickly their defense behind their first amendment. As far as supplying terrorist organizations, i see no evidence other than she may have given money to a muslim charity that America's labeled terrorists, if this is all they have then come arrest me. I give money to CAIR every year.
