I’m flipping through channels on the tv, not
Seeing the screen; I keep hearing your voice
And all those lies you kept weaving, like the
Tapestry you promised to buy me that time
We were in town. Remember it had that
Scene with the birds or the flowers or whatever
The hell it was, I just know it was pretty and
You said when you got money it’d be mine?
You lied about that, too.

Time for a refill, how time flies when you’re not
Having fun. The more I drink, the better it gets,
And the sweeter it tastes, and it doesn’t hurt as bad
As it did the first time I realized you were really gone
For good. But I remember how much fun
You were when we were both high on life, and
Each other and what we thought could be, against
All odds. I’d close my eyes and you’d open your
Heart and it was always perfect until the next time
I didn’t get what I thought I wanted.

Smoking’s not good for me, it makes me choke,
You used to laugh when I did that and call me
Silly. Sometimes I did it just to hear that, I
Liked it when you called me names. It meant you
Cared, if just for a little while. I learned to take you
In careful doses, you were my favorite drug, my
All-time favorite mistake. Kicking you will be the
Hardest thing I ever do, but I’ll do it. I just have to
Keep trying to take it one day at a time and not give
In to that razor I still have on the table. Yeah, you
Left that, too.
