I have a question. Recently I had my purse stolen with all my identification. I have to replace my stolen social security card and drivers license, but the problem is I require one to get the other. A detective was telling me I may be able to take the report to police records and have them pull up and photocopy my drivers license....

Has anyone else in law enforcement heard of this and if so, can I obtain the photocopy(which would have my picture on it) without presenting any other documentation?

I was a dispatcher. I wouldn't listen to a detective about how DMV operates. I would guess you'd need to take your original birth certificate to the social security office to get another copy of your card, then take both to the DMV for a license. Not sure the social security office will accept a photo copy of a license but you could call and ask.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. flowerforyou

As far as the SS Card, I believe all you have to do is fill out a form for a replacement card if you are already in the SS database and are a US Citizen.

Should be the same with drivers license....in AZ, I know you can even get a replacement on-line. They know at DMV if they have you in the system.

Hopefully, you have your SS number memorized.

In Nevada, you need your birth certificate to get your drivers license again.

Once I lost all my papers, in a similar fashion, the biggest pain in the butt was the DMV office. I had to call my captain from the National Guard to convince them that I was serving in the US Army because they would not believe it, even with the military papers I brought with me.

Birth certificate, or marriage license with social security card....unless you have a passport, which is usually all you need, good luck and sorry.
