Gaza, January 19, 2010 (Pal Telegraph) - Many Palestinian houses were under water in Central Gaza after Israel opened a closed dam on Tuesday.

Israeli authorities opened the "Al-Wadi" dam without prior notice after heavy rainfall on the area.

Seventy citizens were rescued by Civil defense staffs. Medical sources said that 9 citizens were injured and transferred to Gaza hospitals.

They said that rescue teams rushed to the area and evacuated all the residents who live in distance of 500-600m in Al-Moghraqa, central Gaza Strip.

The minister of Social Affairs Ministry in Gaza, Ahmed Al-Kord, said that they opened Kafer Yasef School for 100 evacuated families. He added that the ministry provided them with the need supplies of food and sheets.

Read this the first time you posted it and went to find news on it. There is no independent source verifying this. Only sources stating this are Arab / Muslim sources. Also was not even able to find a dam with that name. When using Google Map it shows some location in downtown Jerusalem.

Even if this was true why would people build houses at the bottom of a Dam spillway?Kinda of like someone building a house on top of a dormant volcano and acting surpised when it erupted and destroyed their house.

uh....like this?

Hawaii is formed by hotspot volcanism. The islands are located on the Pacific tectonic plate. Two currently active volcanoes are located on the Big Island, Kilauea, and Mauna Loa.

Historical eruptions in Hawaii have occurred at Kilauea. Mauna Loa, Loihi, Hualalai, Haleakala, and two unnamed undersea locations.

The dam mentioned by OP does not exist as far as I can find. Also no mention of it before this article. The whole area, Israel included, is flooded because of winter storms.

It doesn't exist. They are using the floods to push their propaganda. It's pretty sick, because some knucklehead will probably blow themselves up..

There is a vicious victim-accuser game is played out there..both accusing each other, sometimes on factual things, sometimes just the blame game, whatever works.

I posted a video in another thread related to Israel/palestine somewhere, with a British reporter, Ross Kemp being right there and talking to them...I know, probably got ignored.

It is easily refuted. There were flash floods all through the region. It is like blaming hurricane Katrina on Mexico because "the water came from the Gulf of Mexico".

Such arguments only serve to discredit the credibility of the Palestinian news media. This type of article is a form of Israel-bashing which is obviously biased, silly (and easily checked).

How should we respond to this kind of propaganda? I think all we can do is point it out. Unfortunately some people will choose to believe anti-Israel propaganda and it is used to incite violence. This is why emotions run high in such discussions.

I think it is important that these articles be aired and debunked because they reveal how anti-Israel propaganda is being formulated and used and unmasking it reverses its effect. An article like this is its own worst enemy because there are so many independent ways to show the true nature of the account.

Incidentally, Mexico was not to blame....

He has already found irrefutable evidence that Canada is attempting to flood the U.S. Now we will have to silence him.

So....will 20 liters of maple syrup and an R.C.M.P. stetson keep you quiet?

"Israeli authorities opened the "Al-Wadi" dam without prior notice after heavy rainfall on the area."

Regardless of where people build houses and live, Americans are just as foolish by the way, the dam was opened. It did not overtop, it did not burst. It was opened, by Israelis.

The dam doesn't exist! The entire area, Israel included, is suffering from flooding due to winter storms. We get snow...they get rain.

'News' articles such as this are a great disservice to the Palestinians. When so many false 'news' stories are put out, much like the boy who cried wolf, when something real happens.....they aren't believed.

I take it you've been there? It does exist. With comments like these, why do you ask " why do they hate us"
Most of the american media is either ran by zionists or they back Israel..could that be a reason you couldn't "find it " on any other news organization? BBC reported this.

this is the only BBC article I found about a dam there (which would prove there was a dam there) but nothing on Israel opening a dam recently

this article was in 2001

this is there article about the flooding on the same date as the OP but nothing about Israel opening a dam
