A man who kidnapped and raped a 10-year-old Eugene girl last January has been sentenced to 130 years in prison.

Quantcast

Malcolm Gerlach, 26, used an insanity defense at his November trial, but jurors decided he belonged in prison rather than the state mental hospital.

Lane County Judge Debra Vogt agreed. At Friday's sentencing, she said "we need to recognize some monsters don't just exist in fairy tales."

The victim testified against Gerlach, but did not attend the sentencing. Her father told the court his daughter used to be a happy girl. Not anymore. She won't walk or ride her bike to school and needs lots of reassurance before agreeing to be left with a baby sitter.

Its a horrable thing that the guy did but I don't see one reason why we have to pay to warehouse him . put the dog to sleep and escape later seeing him released by some stupid judge on parol .
Why do we have to feed these freaks .

Good for the judge.

As for the death penalty remark, it cost us more to put them to death than it does to house them. So no advantages there.
