Ok so I go downtown to a bar to meet up with some friends. A cop comes in and tells everyone if they are parked on the street they have to move their cars because they're going to plow the road. (which by the way was pretty clear of snow )
So we all go out and move our cars to the library parking lot across the street which of course is closed.
The whole time not one single snow plow truck came thru.
HOWEVER, by closing time, the cops were parked in the library lot, and at both exits of the lot. So this way they can just watch everyone that comes out of the bar and pull over whoever they want.
Some of us even got tickets for parking in the libray lot since it's for library customers only. Maybe they just didn't have time to ticket everyone... IDK.
I wasn't drunk by any means, but it was very intimadating trying to leave the bar. There was a cop parking in the middle of the road by the bar, watching everyone leaving. And like I said, a cop in the parking lot and 1 at each exit. WTF????
THANKFULLY I didn't get pulled over... but I'm sure some did. I know my friends haven't made it home yet so IDK if they got pulled over yet or not.

been there Jill myself. Similar situation, when the cops would pretty much barricade off all the roads leading from the bars, even if I wasn't coming from the bars I was being pulled over and held up for a good 20 minutes.

it was a bunch of crap seriously. I've never seen anything like it.

I have been hearing more and more about this... totally not cool. But I can understand them wanting to keep the roads safe, but to trap people not cool!

I've seen it and experienced it many times. But never been charged or arrested with DUI.

I'm all for pulling over and arresting drunk drivers. HOWEVER, the whole making us all park in the same lot and block all the exits is pretty crappy.

Before someone gets me wrong, I haven't driven drunk. But I have driven after a beer. And they got zero tolerance here, which is cool, but imagine getting arrested after one cup of beer.

I'm pretty sure that the cops aren't legally allowed to do that here in Michigan.

I would think you had a case as far as the tickets for parking in the parking lot and possible any thing else leading to tickets due to the way they in fact did it.

But I do know that in Texas they do have the right to sit in the parking lot and watch anyone coming out of a bar and it leads to and arrest ect.

But it is what they did prior that would seem to be beyond the call.

see i agree that is so not right. i know here where i live the bars just happen to be all on one street. the cops come around closing time. but they dont arrest anyone. they try not to. they have a bank full of taxis just to make sure no one drives. but there has always been one person that was like no way im driving. the cops never just did that ever.

Same in Utah, but it doesn't stop them from doing it. Easy to contest the ticket if you are willing to go through multiple court appearances, just not a lot of people that want to bother...I had a lot of time in Utah and contested pretty much all of my charges, longest I went through was a two year court ordeal because the prosecutor kept asking for added time so he could get the evidence collected...someone should have told him that there was no evidence to be collected and I could have had it all dealt with in a year.

That sounds about right. They need to make their quotas. Saying I am not a fan of cops is putting lightly. I have NEVER met a member of the NYPD that I liked.

A couple years ago I was stopped 4 times leaving a local bar. The cops park in a business parking lot right next door. The reasons for stopping me were BS. One time it was not coming to a complete stop exiting a business driveway, we think you might have a license plate light out, you crossed the center line as you turned onto another road.

I was never drinking, I would just tell them to give me the breathalizer. Some of them were jerks and would make me do the sobriety test. I would tell them I couldn't pass it anyway because I've had ankle surgery and my balance isn't that great.

It happens to the majority of people who would leave the bar. Now, everyone just stays home and drinks. I was stopped by the state police and a different trooper each time.

I would fight (contest) any ticket I got in that situation till they were sick to death of me and either threw me under the jail or dropped the ticket. I would also have a little walk over to one of the officers and ask him / her politely but firmly where exactly was the plow?

One can also call their watch commander (supervisor) onto the site if one feels intimidated or feels that foul play is at foot.

As for police, I love em, God bless em, but it seems we only ever really see, hear about the bad ones. Every job has "bad ones". The good cops are hardly ever praise or seen.

I you were not drunk and driving, there is no problem. If you were drunk and driving and they pulled you over, its your fault - not the cops.

They have laws in place that cops also have to adhere too...it really is nothing more than entrapment, which a lot of police forces have to pay attention too but don't either because they are simply stupid or don't know how to follow directions very well. Pretty ****ing simple isn't it...
