Asking about the nature Ego, GhostRecon writes:
" How about Edge God Out" Or taking left-handed shots at people who don't believe in Allah? Or whomever or whatever the person implying those who they find lacking for not believing in what she conceives G-d to be? Tut, tut. I believe this skirts the edge of good posting guidelines. -Kerry O. |

The word ‘ego’ has cloudy meanings because of it’s many uses. I basically means to have a sense of self, or individuality, which is not necessarily a bad thing. However, it is also often associated with having too much self-importance or arrogance which is a bad thing. With respect to its fundamental meaning most humans feel a sense of self and individuality because of the very nature of our physically separate minds and bodies. So in this sense all humans have a sense of ego or ‘self’. This is perfectly natural and not a bad thing if it’s not taken to the extreme. However, that sense of self can be paramount in how we view our existence. When it comes to philosophies and religion the importance of the self can play vastly differnet roles. For example, religions that view their God as being external to the world (having a self or ego of its own), tend to reinforce and emphasize the importance of the human ego. In fact, these types of religions preserve the ego into the afterlife. They view God as a separate entity and all humans as separate entities not only in this physical world but in the spiritual world as well. The individuality of egos are preserved for eternity. Other religions that view their God as being internal to the world (not having a separate self or ego of its own), tend to feel that our egotistical nature is merely an illusion brought about by our physical condition in this life. They tend to believe that in an afterlife the spirit rejoins as a single contiguous entity. This ‘many-in-one’ or ‘one-in-many’ view is beyond physical logic it is a spiritual notion that many physical human beings have a hard time comprehending. The sense of ego is very strong. There is a feeling that if we lose our ego, we lose our ‘self’ and if we lose are ‘self’ we lose everything that is important to us. In other words, having a sense of self is a very important feeling for humans. It is so cherished that there is a great tendency to want to preserve this sense of ego into an afterlife. There are many books written on this subject. Most deal with Eastern Mysticism because these religions see the self as an illusion that is created by physical existence. There are many theories as to how the self is dealt with in an afterlife. Is there more than one self in the spiritual world? Does there need to be? Are we all manifestations of the self of God, or are we entirely separate entities from God, which would implies that we are indeed individual Gods in our own right? I have had many dreams concerning the nature of an afterlife. Some of them were so real I almost feel like I have been there. Of course, my dreams do not imply any real knowledge of any afterlife, my dreams could be nothing more than my own imagination and nothing more. However, the interesting thing that emerges from my dreams is that it is possible to imagine a scenario where all is one, yet a sense of individuality still remains. I don’t want to share a dream here because it would take too much space. But I would like to share a brief description of the nature of the spirit as it appears in my dreams. When in the spiritual form there is no physical body. Therefore there is no physical delimitation between spirits, yet there is still a sense of physical individuality. In my dreams spirits are orbs of light. And even though they appear as separate orbs they can pass through each other and even merge together or separate. So in my dreams the spiritual world exists in a type of 3-dimensional space of sorts only without the restrictions of physical matter. This is probably due to the fact that my brain is preconceived to think 3-dimensionally. From a cerebral point of view there is only one mind. All spirits know the thoughts of all other spirits. It’s like you can instantly know precisely what any spirit is thinking and you also know that they can read your mind. But there is no feeling of invasion of privacy because there is also an overwhelming sense that all spirits are of one mind. In other words, your thoughts are my thoughts and vice versa. So in a sense we are all thinking the same thoughts. Thoughts don’t actually ‘belong’ to anyone, in fact there are no ‘individuals’ to own thoughts, yet there is still a strong sense of self. But this feeling of self is primal, it’s not a feeling of arrogance or self-importance at all. It’s more just a feeling of central existence. Finally, there is no ‘egotistical’ godhead in this dream, nor is there any hierarchy among the spirits. The sense of egalitarianism is overwhelming. The feeling is extreme security, total love, and the absence of any idea of a threat. In fact there simply is no though of any threat at all, like as if such a notion simply has no merit. There is much more to my dream, including a means of reincarnation. In fact, reincarnation is what spirits do. It is their sole purpose. However, they aren’t thinking in terms of being reincarnated on Earth. There are an infinity of world in which to become incarnated into, and time is totally meaningless so a spirit can be incarnated into any world at any time. Being reincarnated on Earth is of course one of the infinite possibilities. The choice of reincarnation is entirely up to the spirit being reincarnated. No spirit is forced to do anything. There are no threats of any kind in the spiritual world. At least, not as it exists in my dreams. |

Ego is Greek for the word I. If you want a better understanding of the
work read Ayn Rand's "Anthem." Hmm... read yeah right, more of the people on these threads would rather burn books than read them! |

EGO
The world is mine I own it, it is in my command The sun rises each morning as I wish it The moon and stars shine clear at night Because I care to see them The seasons change because I believe they should And the leaves on the trees in the Autumn breeze Turn colors, all at my command. There are hurricanes and tornadoes in my anger And there is fog and rain in my sorrow There are snow storms for the children So I can see them laugh and play in drifts of white When I have had enough of people I create wars, tho' not to kill everyone For in a mood of great passion I will find cures for dreaded diseases. These same diseases that I have created. I am great, I am loved I am harnessed within each human And, as I wish it, I am subdued By the waking personality. I AM EGO |
