From tomorrow's Chicago Sun-Times, page 28:

According to the International Committee In Charge Of Assigning Things To Various Years, 2010 is to be officially designated as "The Year of the Intimidating and Complicated Obscure Science Fiction Author©."


I don't know why they waited this long to announce it, but rumor has it that there was stiff competition from the "Year Of The Nice Guy" lobby and the "Year Of The Man Holding Up A Fish In Front Of A Camera" crowd.

At any rate, it will be good to get 2009 over with, "The Year Of The Person With Over 42,000 Friends On MySpace." Frankly, that particular distinction made no sense at all and should never have been allowed in the first place.

These designations should not be treated frivolously.
