I dunno
there are very few black people where I live. I never really encountered any until I joined the military. And the Navy is pretty race transparent when you get into the upper levels (not so much for the kids and junior people) but where I live is about 70% Spanish and I do see some anti-anglo bias here |

Maybe it's just because I live in Southern California that I hold the view that I do. Race relations here are tense and I was out in the streets as a cop during the Rodney King riots here in LA in the early 90's. It's not gotten better since then.

I have a friend that recently took a job as a cashier in a walmart out of town.
Now when I moved here, I noticed overall, this is a pretty racist community. The only difference is no one wants to admit that they are racist. I came from a neighborhood where I was the minority. I always had friends of different races. That's how I grew up. So anyway, my friend tells me one day after working "You know what I realized? Black people are normal just like everyone else" "and most of our problems at the store come from White teenagers" I'm sorry but I couldn't help but laugh. I was actually happy that she FINALLY has come to realize that people of other races, are just like her. That's what I've been telling her all along. They get married, they raise their kids, they drive mini vans, have a mortgage, drink coffee, go to work, etc etc etc. She had lived such a sheltered life and always believed everything she was told about other people. I'm happy now that she's gotten out into the real world and seeing that most other people, are "normal" tax paying, yard cleaning, back yard bbq, working going citizens. |

as I just traveled from Texas to Maine to Flordia to the Florida Keys and then onto Colorado and back to Texas I met many people from other countries. They receive benefits and most are working.I feel like this angers some people when so many are out of work and have to meet strict guidelines to receive help

The term "Racist" is a subjective one, SOME people on here call anyone who disagrees with a certain president a racist. So when I hear 'Racist" I ignore it because the people saying it are usually ignorant. |

I live in the South. Ok, so that right there will tell you that we have racists here. And nowadays, it isn't even black vs. white. It is also white vs. hispanic, or black vs. hispanic. About the only people who are left unbothered are Chinese, and that is because we love their cheap prices on there food.

...race relations in America are getting better or worse? Meh, there's one race...the human race. So yeah, humans tend to hate other humans that are different from them. Better or worse? Neither. There's always going to be those that hate others because of their ethnicity, religion, social status, etc etc etc. Name something, and there will be someone that hates another for it. |

neither or both

1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
Assuming that miriam webster is not ignorant,,, I'd say this belief is no more or less prominent than before, people just are not as quick to accept or admit to it. I already gave my example in another post about my husband, a british man, calling me racial slurs. What is scary , is that it is so deeply ingrained into society, that many dont even realize they are racist to begin with. |

I live on an island that is more Native American and Asian than whites,I think it is getting better. I have lived up here now for almost 20years, across the state I believe it is getting better, I hope it continues.
In my opinin when race enters into things it just shows stupidity of people, I don't look at race, I look at people |

I think in my part of the world it's getting better. Kids go to school with many different races and have to learn to get along and be friends with each other at a young age.
Even where I work, many of the people I work with are black, hispanic, white. We all seem to get along. |

Toronto, where I live, is a wonderful, multi-cultural city. We are not a melting pot. Racial and national boundaries are kept sacrosanct and never crossed inside the city limits.
Of course, everyone still hates the Jews, the Blacks, the Italians, the Chinese, the Anglos, the Pilipinoes, the Hungarians, the Balkanians, the Russians, the Indians (both east and west, and of the islands), the Australians, the Austrians, the Bangla Deshians, the Shri Lankans, the Tamil Tigers (especially now, with their sex escapades and cheating on their Swedish wives), the Arabs, the Sudanese, the Albanese, the Fecese, the Ethiopians, the English, the Germans and, of course the San Marinoeans and the Lichtensteineans. The only people everyone loves in Toronto are the Chipmunks, because they are so cute even when they get overweight. Also exempt from hate are exceptionally well-built women, of any race, credo, and of any national or sexual origin. Everyone loves those. Or would like to, given half a chance. |
