As a life-long Bowie fan I find this the biggest curiosity of Bowie's catalog. I prefer the Ziggy Stardust albums and the Brian Eno Trilogy of albums (Low, Lodger & Heroes) but Diamond Dogs contains my favorite and least favorite of all his songs one one LP. The mix sounds muddy and screwed up compared to most of his other records. This could be due to over-production or the general drug abuse goin' on behind the scenes. The Live album "Live At The Tower" documented this tour. It featured guitarist Earl Slick, who I was fortunate to become friends with in the late 80"s.

It also features some interesting mellotron bits, which is something Bowie didn't use very much....

I love the Bowie/Eno stuff (even the later collaborations like "Outside") -- Eno approaches the whole process from such a different angle than "real" musicians, i.e., Bowie, John Cale, Robert Fripp, etc. --

Eno did a book called "A Year With Swollen Appendices," a sort of diary-type thing, in which he talks about some of the interactions with Bowie. Interesting inside stuff.

These guys are two of my musical heroes....

I've heard that. Eno is my hero! Ever hear his " Bell Studies..," project? It's like, 26 different tape manipulations of church bells. It's beautiful. I love "3rd Uncle" from his "Tiger Mtn." Lp and ""Ambient 4-On Land"..."Music For Films" & " Before & After Science".

Ive got that LP, its probably the most interesting in terms of its artwork if nothing else. I think a lot of Bowie's production back then wasnt all that great, but sometimes his unique style allowed him to get away with it. Diamond Dogs is a concept album which doesnt quite work. Unlike 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars', which is a perfect concept album. The individual songs arent all great, but together they make an album which works best listened to from start to finsh.

Diamond Dogs was loosely based on Orwells's 1984 and William Burroughs cut-up method which is what he incorporated to write the lyrics.

bands created music, and at there shows atmospehere.unlike todays bands,It's sad to think how you would here Bob Dillon today.Stations wouldnt play it.People like Eric Clapton dont try to compete with the shredders,he does his own thing and is a true blues god.Thats why those musicians are legends.frustrated

Absolutely. Unfortunately people with taste don't dictate what's played on the radio.

i think DD is a classic album and i dont think there is a less than great track on it,the production and sound is brill.btw saw tigers on vaseline on sat,a glaswegian bowie tribute.pretty good bearing in mind bowie is a hard man to emulate, the beer belly tho kind of spoiled the illusion!get to the gym man.those suspenders didnt do anything for you, anyway i dont ever recall bowie wearing suspenders on stage, altho he probably would have been able to carry it off.
