No idea unless he was trying to personify death. |

Why did Vishnu choose to use the improper tense when he stated, "Now I am become death... the destroyer of worlds"? It's an archaic form of "have become". English' grammar is of Germanic origin, and in Germanic languages, in some to this day, there are two forms of perfect: one type of word in the perfect sense the modal verb is "have", in the other, "be". So when someone says, for instance, "Where's Joe", and someone else answers "He's gone to the store", we may take "is" as a copula verb with a past participle as a modifier, or else we can take "is" as the modal verb in the place of "have" to say "He has gone to the store". "I am become..." is indeed "I have become..." with the use of the modal verb of "be" to act as the normally accepted "have". It's an archaic use. |

How influential were quasi-autonomous non-governmental organisations in the shaping the commercial infrastructure of the East end of London between 1985-1989? Alas, much less than in the West End during the preceding decade...but what the hell is one to do? |
