I think the main problem with a lot of unions ( and the one I belong to is included in that because of things I have seen and heard going on at other places ) is that they just don't have the common sense to realize that if they keep demanding more and more, eventually the company isn't going to be able to survive if things take a turn for the worse. Now, the local I belong to has always had pretty good leadership in that they have known that the entire goal is to keep people working. They know that if people aren't working, there isn't any union. Therefore, they will take slightly less than what a lot of people would want, but we help make sure the place stays up and running. Where the heck have y'all been for the last 25-30 years? The Government has steadily been killing the Unions influence in America. Why? Because it was the largest organized group of "the people" in America, and stood in the way of globalization (outsourcing American jobs for a cheaper labor market). If the Unions had the government in their pocket the trade tariffs would still be around. You should come to california. The unions have our state by the short 'n curlies. |

We've always been a right to work state. Lifting the tariffs and globalization screwed us all by itself. |

It's not the unions that I hate, it's that the government has to protect them like here in CA. The unions are the reason why our state is failing. When the prison guard union has a few thousand members making six figures, there's something wrong. When the legislators (democratic this time) are on the cellular with the unions as they are discussing budget cutbacks with republicans, there's something wrong. The only time I am 100% against unions is in the public sector. |
