Leaves coming in laying on the floors
One here, one there, moving with the opened doors. Family from far away, coming by to share this day. Young-ins in their Sunday's best. To Aunt's and Uncle's and all the rest. Carrying plates with tin foil wrap, as one drops and breaks, Dad yelling holy crap. Its Thanksgiving day Nineteen Seventy. At the Roe's, it was just so heavenly. Turkey cooking all through the night, And mom and Dad, not in a fight. This is the day we all get some great food to eat. Salads, hams, jello filled bowls, people stepping on your feet. One day Dad was sober, one day not to have any fear. This was my special ONE-DAY out of the whole year. Having gone two days without having a real bite. Now to show others their calm, cool, and polite. Growing as I did, when I got to become a Dad. Thanksgiving was our family times to be so happy, not sad. Nothing faked, only lovingly baked. With little eyes looking at great big pies. Daughter helping Mom, the Boys watching me handle the turkey. I set it on the table, pulled back its tin foil top, real perky. Took my carving knife and fork, started to cut, Their eyes close,,I jerked and gobbled, one fell on his butt. Teasing times and playful days, Now, thats also their ways. A generation not past down, but changed to be so much more. As all of this just thought about, as a leaf fell on my floor. FOLKS,,,everyone here, I wish all of you a very Spacial, THANKSGIVING DAY! And PLEASE, don't drink and drive,,, and IF YOU CAN,,,don't drink at all TODAY,wink Generations,,,DON'T have to be PASSED-DOWN, completely! |
