Topic: Do I need to refrigerate pie? | |
---|---|
My wonderfully sweet neighbor just brought over a homemade apple pie. Do I need to refrigerate it, or can it stay out on the counter? Help!

If it's fresh baked it can stay out as long as it's covered.

No dairy it will carry.

if it were in my house it wouoldnt last long enough
you can leave it on the counter for a day or two or in the fridge for a week or so but it is sugar and bacteria love sugar |

No, you don't need to chill it. Pie is full of sugar and sugar is one of the best preservatives. You may want to cover it to keep the crust from going stale but but you don't need to worry about spoilage.

Thanks everyone! I wasn't sure, but now I have my answer. It is covered with foil. It'll go to work with me on Friday, its just me and my son here and he doesn't eat pie and I sure don't need a whole one. Anyone want a slice?!?! lol

It'll take me awhile to get to Bucks County from here.

It should be okay for a few days out. But if you know it's particularly warm or will not be eaten promptly, refridgerate. It's the crust and apples that will start deteriorating. Especially if the pie is not covered entirely with crust. It warms up so easily in a microwave, so I'd put it in the fridge.

I'll probably do that before I go to bed, it sort of makes me nervous to leave it sitting out. It has foil over it, but I am not one to leave anything sitting out. |

well at least if its covered with foil the cockroaches can't get into it Ick, thats gross! No buggies in my house, except those darned ladybugs that are trying to hibernate or something. |
|
|
|
oh but lady bugs are good
they bring good luck AND they are vicious killers and eat a hundred times their own weight in bugs every day |
|
|

I don't mind the ladybugs, we were swarmed with them a month or so back, they were everywhere. Now there are just a few in the corner of the bathroom.

kinda off topic but it reminded me
I was in the Sequoia National Forest years ago. Love those redwoods. mighty impressive trees and the forest service was releasing MILLIONS of ladybugs to fight some kind of beetle infestation. Everywhere you looked were just millions and millions of lady bugs swarming in the trees it was kinda pretty. it make all the branches of the trees look red |

That is exactly how my porch looked, it was just wall to wall ladybugs. I have never seen anything like it.

quietman is right..sugar breeds bacteria.
Ever leave a jar of jelly out? Ewwww. One of the first things they tell you about diabetics is an infection doesn't heal well due to blood sugar levels. Sugar is a main cause of acne (bacteria)not fat. If you have any type of bacterial infection don't eat sugar. Then again if you eat it all in one day. No worries. LOL |
