... but does anyone here actually get offended anymore? I just don't. I laugh before I get upset. Not saying that's better than those who do get offended.

I'm really wondering.

depends on the situation. There are topics or posts that are sensitive subjects and close to people

I never get too uptight anyway in life but yes I have been offended and let people know it.

Don't know if it does any good, just have to put it out there.

Some things folks say on here I get irritated with but rarely say anything about it. It's their opinion and they're entitled to it. It does take a lot to get me riled up though and it's usually something about single parents bigsmile flowerforyou

We desensitize to protect ourselves from those people and emotions that would cause us harm. I used to cry at funerals, but then after a while, I became numb to it, and it is what it is. I used to let angry people provoke me, but after a while, I became numb to that too, it is they who have the problem, and they must help themselves, I can do nothing for them, so I learned the fine art of zen and inner peace, and learned how to tune-out and block other people's negative emotions. Part of me feels dead inside because of this, but you do what you have to, to survive.

DDDDang!!!! I must be desensitized, because I take things from where they come from. Which helps make almost everything amusing. That and having my mind constantly in the gutter helps too.

I have seen the entire gamut in my time here -- from people who get offended just because someone has a differing opinion, to those who couldn't get offended if their life depended on it, which it rarely does.

Just like any other situation where you're dealing with large numbers of people -- some extremes on either end, but most fall somewhere in the mid-range.

There are some things that are sticky situations for me where I might react differently. I try to consider the source though. Say if someone is bad mouthing me...I don't really get upset once I consider the source. Sometimes it does bother me though. Say some very close and trusted does this (like a family member or something) I ask myself why and what triggered it. If it's something that I did...then I will own up to it. If it's someone I really don't think highly of to begin with....then it's not a big deal to me.

It depends on the topic and the comment.

I am highly hurt when I read people say they hate cops -- and wish them dead -- or laugh when they hear cops are killed in the line of duty. tears

I am highly offended about animal cruelty.

Racial slurs are also disgusting. explode

The rest just falls into "whatever". I'm not even affronted at the members who claim I'm an empty-headed narcissist. I can make fun of myself very easily, but at the end of the day, I know I am exhausted from my career, graduate school, and volunteering. Some people choose only to “see” what they want to see. I digress.

Laughter is good in the face of some negativity; otherwise, we would all be in straightjackets. tongue2

I don't get offended by ignorant comments, because I know the person who made them is either too stupid to know any better, or they do know better and they're just trying to get a reaction. I'm too contrary to give them one.

I pick my battles...not wasting my time or energy on people who appear stupid or ignorant and want to rant about things insignificant! On the other hand, comments (not just in the small world of Mingle but elsewhere) that are simply unfair and unjust and perpetuate biases, bigotry hatred..yeah, there offensive...and they're worth standing up and fighting if necessary.
