let me pose this to everyone. Use the example of the health care bill

FOX says X about it
CNN says Y about it

Do you take the polls of the source you like or do you consider both just polls from different sources?

I would probably figure somewhere in the middle of the two. Figuring both are trying to find people to support their point of view.

I agree with that dragoness 100%

I would like to hear why someone would pick on over the other. What makes one poll better than the other?

Where did everyone go?

Not enough percentage of people who agree with them available?

Think it is a set up?

I'm not looking to say someone is right or wrong here....I'm just curious as to how people see polls

I was very skeptic about polls until they started showing the real winners in elections . Now I believe them because they are accurate within a certain margin . If they are done properly they would show a right or close enough number .Of course it depends on who is doing the polls and they be very manipulative and deceiving sometimes .

good point. How do they determine who gets polled though? Do they use studies to determine this?

Ages ago I worked for a company that does pulling . We had to go to the telephone directory and we take from approximately the same edge from each page one person . Lots of people refused to talk to us .
Yes I worked for a polls company . sometimes the company has a list of people to contact from different parts of the nation .

OK Gio....so you follow polls depending on who does them??? If so, how do you, personally, decide who to trust?

The results of any poll depend on the bias of the poll taker, who pays for it, and what questions are asked.

Most people search for a poll that portrays the results that support their view. Ignoring the questions asked or the person paying for it!

Many poll givers are paid to get a specific result and will limit the choice or word the questions to get that specific answer.

so the general consensus of this poll laugh is that polls can be biased and not very accurate?

if its done right

absolutely random and geographically neutral, a poll as a statical tool can be extremely accurate. There is a minimum sample size that will extrapolate to the whole population plus or minus of something like 4% to 5%

BUT most polls are "push" polls where they are fishing for a specific result

I agree. I kinda thought it was funny in here because I am asking for my own curiosity and it is kinda like a poll about polls
