Vt. Secession Movement Gains Traction

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - At Riverwalk Records, the all-vinyl music store
just down the street from the state Capitol, the black "US Out of Vt.!"
T-shirts are among the hottest sellers.

But to some people in Vermont, the idea is bigger than a $20 novelty.
They want Vermont to secede from the United States - peacefully, of
course.

Disillusioned by what they call an empire about to fall, a small cadre
of writers and academics hopes to put the question before citizens in
March. Eventually, they want to persuade state lawmakers to declare
independence, returning Vermont to the status it held from 1777 to 1791.

Sure go ahead and give the bush his excuse to use the new changes to the
Insurrection Act as modified by Congress in 2007 so that he can deploy
and use federal troops within the borders of the United States.

This will give him that authority to quell 'insurrection against the
Federal Government' by use of force.

Section 1076 of the newly modified Insurrection Act allows the President
to declare a public emergency and station the military anywhere in
America and take control of state-based National Guard units without the
consent of the governor or local authorities.

I don't suppose those fine folks in Vermont remember what happened the
last time secession was tried do they?

your right adventure. it would be just like when the english troops in
the 1700s would "invite" themselves to be stationed in the homes of
private citizens. bush is turning into another king george III. i dont
like it one bit. i am eagerly awaiting his last day in office. his is a
tyrant

Wait... You ain't seen nothing yet.

It all adds up.

The mis-named USA PATRIOT ACT that undermines the Bill of Rights and
allows the FBI to define a domestic terrorist as 'one who is vocal in
supporting the Consititution'.

The changes in laws to gut the Posse Cumitatus Act which limits how
Federal Troops can be used within a State.

Changes in the Insurrection Act of 1803 in 2007 that gives the President
the power to bypass governors and use troops within a State.

Presidential executive orders that allow the president to take to
himself the powers of congress during an emergency bypasing the three
part balanced branches of government. (jeeze its looks like 1933
germany all over again).

Next will come an 'emergency' that will give them an excuse to
'temporarily' suspend the Consititution for 'national security reasons'

Heck by pointing this out I probablly have placed my self on the
'suspected domestic terrorist watch list'.

Yep have been since 1958!!!

The Alaskan Independence Party is a political party in the U.S. state of
Alaska. Its most well-known plank is its call for a vote on secession,
which they claim should have been offered as an option in the plebiscite
on statehood under international law. Ideologically libertarian, the
party also calls for increased Alaskan control of Alaskan land, gun
rights, privatization, and an end to environmental regulation.

I have heard that both Alaska and California have political groups that
are considering putting such a question to their populations.

I am becoming concerned about the centralizing of power in Washington.

When all government, in little as in great things, shall be drawn to
Washington as the Center of all power, it will render powerless the
checks provided of one government on another and will become as venal
and oppressive as the government from which we separated." – Thomas
Jefferson

"The constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain
the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the
government - lest it come to dominate our lives and interests."-Patrick
Henry

I think in Alaska during the 60's the main man for secession
mysteriously disappeared. The Fed's had discovered oil and Alaska had a
majority for Independence.
Seems like I saw a documentary on it once. Many were claiming the Fed's
had something to do with his disappearance!!

This could get interesting with VT, but with the lack of oil revenues it
might just happen with no worry from the feds.
It would just be a slap in the face.
