As I child our vacations were camping in the summer going into the upper peninsula of Michigan. My grandparents would camp all summer long and we would visit. So many nights spent around a campfire listening to stories and laughing. I think it grounded me as a person.
When I go now I prefer primitive camping, far away from the road, and absolutely no t.v., electricity, or cement pads. I like to feel like I've gotten away from all the noise and media that we are bombarded with on a daily basis. Then I can truly relax. |

I camp so much, that all the bigfoot sightings is actually me, trying to take care of No2...and some stupid tourist shows up with his camera.

And here I thought I had captured something special. I am from a large family. The reason you don't see any bigfoots as often anymore, because I'm here on mingle and also got tired of using the leaves for wiping and now I learned how to wear clothes and shave. |

I like camping, particularly on beaches which is convenient where I live. No need for a tent on the southside...so many stars and it never rains. It's my christmas morning tradition to wake up on a beach.

It's my christmas morning tradition to wake up on a beach. You are lucky, that would be a dream to wake up to. I've been to Hawaii twice, you're right- if it rains it isn't for long and then there's a rainbow. I could do it here, but a sleeping bag, fire and many layers of clothes would be required. |

Hmmm, any takers? |

I enjoy camping. I do lots of fly fishing so I travel into the back country where I can't really get a hotel room. A couple of years back I got a issue of LRL magazine about a guy who built his Land Rover Defender pick-up into a mobile fly fishing lodge. Being short $90,000 to buy a Defender I made due with my 93' Range Rover (it was nice once, many years ago). So I built a plywood box in the back that is level with the rear seats when they are folded flat. I lay a air bed on top and I have a instant hotel room that animals can't get me in (really nice feature in Yellowstone). In the box I put drawers that I store tools, spare parts, and extra oils on one side and I added felt linning to the other side to store my reels and rods in. I added a drop in ice box for drinks and food. So my old Rover has been all over the country camping and has a provided me with lots of enjoyment.

Well, knowing how to make an awesome campfire would be good. Did I forget to mention I was a Girl Scout? We are always prepared. Sounds like we need to make a play date LOL Speaking of which, I'm hosting a camping get together this Spring - see my original post - anyone interested? There's tent camping, trailer camping, fishing, trails, ect. Maybe we could make it something fun :) |

OK, here's the officialy dates;
Elk Neck Rally Held at the Elk Neck State Park North East, Md 21901 June 11 - 13, 2010 This is my first rally, so any input would be greatly appreciated. The rally will be held at Elk Neck State Park As far as Elk Neck State Park goes, I'm going to take some time and go see the park again. I've been there taking pictures of my, and my brother's classic cars, but I haven't spent too much time there on foot. I do like the light house, though I usually go see it from the water on my boat. I'll update this as I get more information. In regards to what we'll do at the park as a group, I would like some input from interested members, and take it from there. Fishing, cook outs, maybe a pot luck dinner? I'll see what their requirements are about having a bon fire, but the park services wouldn't go for it a couple of years ago. But hey, it never hurts to ask right? The costs at the Park are; Campsite: $25/night Campsite with electric: $30/night Campsite with electric, water and sewer: $35/night *I'll confirm these rates, and look in to group rates, at a later date* So, anyone interested? |

I LOVE camping!!! I prefer to hang a small tarp with a bed roll in case it rains- hung in such a way I can still see the stars, but otherwise totally outside : ) Anyone ever heard of the Dolly Sods Wilderness area in WV? I spent close to a week out there by myself last summer, and it was wonderful... I like to backpack, but am still figuring out how to take less and less- seems no matter how hard I try, I still pack too much!
"Glamping" can be fun too! car camp in enough of a wilderness area that you are still out there... but not so far in so that things like cold beer, wine, musical instruments, good food- can be carried in... I spent a whole summer glamping with my son a couple of years back! Divine summer neither of us will ever forget |

I have camped many places but I think Alaska was the best. I have a hybrid trailer where one end folds down into a tent and the other end folds down into a ramp so I can put my Harley inside. I have put thirty thousand miles on the trailer from Big Bend to the Arctic Ocean. I pull the trailer with a four wheel drive v8 jeep so I have a lot of flexibility in weather and road conditions. I dream of a great Alaskan adventure!!!!! |
