I would like to take a moment to say thank you to all the serving members in the military as well as all the veterans from previous serving. They are doing a great service to the country.

They deserve more than a thank you but it's the best I can do.

I took flowers and two little flags out to my Dad's resting place this morning. My Dad liked the army a lot. He was in the Phillipines in WWII and drove a "water buffalo" I think is what they called it. Anyway, the thing that went from the ship to the beach and he dumped the soldiers onto the beach and that bothered him. If it sounds like I don't know what I'm talking about it's in my head I just can't think of the terms for things.
My Dad could have been called abusive by today's standards in that he took no backtalk or disrespect. But he provided for us well and never drank and was always with us. Before he died he told me he was so sorry for being a son of a ***** and I told him he wasn't at all and that was just the way his generation was and that was the reason we won WWII. He liked that or accepted that. I see these old, old vets on t.v., the last of the true warriors, and they're still beaming with pride and I wonder how honored they really feel in today's cavalier and non-commemorative world. I see some Viet Nam vets sitting on the street somewhere and I want to go over to them and sit down and say, "Hello in there. Thank you". Those guys did a job they were pretty much forced into while their country sat back here and protested. I protested the war in my own uneducated and ignorant way but prayed for the troops at the same time. There will always be wars and if your son, brother, husband, father don't have to go then that's damn lucky.
My heart aches for the young husband I barely got to know but he gave his life for our freedom 41 years ago.
I salute every man and woman laying their lives on the line so I can have the right to tell you how I feel and I feel proud to be an American!

Here we call it Remembrance Day, and even though my family has had a long history of dodging the drafts (as Mennonites do) I think it's ever important that we remember WHY we're remembering.

For people my age and younger it's hard for them to see how truly grateful we should be for every moment we live the way we do. It's getting to be that all the WWI and WWII Veterans are passing on and I hope for my country's sake we continue to honour them and our current soldiers who aren't home now.

I personally took a few minutes this morning to remember a few people. Mr.McQuarrie, a friend's grandad who passed recently and found his bride in England during the Blitz and stole her back to Canada.
My cousin Nick and his wife. Three tours in Afghanistan and 2 babies keep them busy.
My buddy Brody who shipped out 2 weeks ago. He's too good to get hurt, so I never tell him to be safe. I say it in my head though.
