Ummmmm....no.
I would prefer to not take out the human element. Just because TV can slow things down, repeat them over and over and find a mistake here and there....the umpires are actually CORRECT in their calls well over 99% of the time. The umpires are making those calls in real time. A sports writer in the Detroit Free Press made a very good point in saying that one call does not win or lose a game. There are many opportunities for a team to make plays to win a game. If, in the game in question, even one base runner was left on base at the end of an inning by the team complaining about the bad call, it's not the CALL that caused them to lose. It was the missed opportunity to score. Unless both pitchers are throwing no hitters, each team had opportunities to win the game by scoring. Have you noticed that the officiating in the NFL has gone severely downhill since the league decided to implement instant replay?? The refs no longer HAVE to get calls right because replay will always cover their butts when they screw up. Pissing and moaning about a bad call is just sour grapes because their team was inept at some point in the game. |
