TV change social rules? There are people that think that Tom Hanks produceing a TV program in Canada promoteing poligamy is going to make it acceptable enough to be come legal. Agree? Why?

I agree to an extent, we have shown that we are followers of media...for example lets look at Hawaii, it use to be that 'thicker' girls were more desirable than thin girls, but when they got cable to the islands more specifically when Baywatch aired the cases of anorexia soared...

I think TV has done a lot of harm to our kids

Showing them to much sexual freedom.

Helps them grow up to fast

My kids had little or no TV and I see a big difference between them
And kids who vegatate in front of it!

TV has dumbed-down society, most esp in the US. It used
to be an information medium, with entertainment thrown in.

Now it's mostly "entertainment" with information thrown in.
Sure, we have the science-type channels, but even they have
the "reality shows". Heck, even the "news" media has turned
their "reporting" into entertainment with all the flash.

Please.

The reality shows are what's screwed it up - it's all
scripted - life isn't scripted. How is that reality?

The kids watch it and think that's the way it is.

I don't think tv programs really lead people into anything they dont want to do, i watched Big Love religiously every week, and the whole idea of it facinated me but i would not want to live that life style. Im too selfish LOL.

The amount of violence is more damaging than anything else...in my opinion.
I would rather have my sons watch a steamy love scene and feel a little embarrassed than watch a slasher flick and find it amusing...

TV is merely bubble gum for the eyes. Even Reality isn't REAL on TV

Last night I was watching a program on weapons: pirates vs. knights. They had this star-shaped ball on a chain that knights used. And they had a silicon "person" filled with weight equivalents of brains, etc. This "knight" took 2 slashes at the "person" and reduced him to jelly. Then the guys came over to see the remains and they were laughing about how they had reduced this object with the morningstar. I was appalled at their glee and changed the station. Bad, bad, bad.

I think TV sells a lot of things over time but I am not so sure they can make some things fly.

It does seem that we have gotten used to seeing a lot of things that I would have thought people wouldn't go for. Or let continue. What really pains me is what we have grown to accept; gangs, homelessness, children useing drugs, elderly abuse, people dyeing because they can not afford medical care.

Haven't really thought of pologymy that much but we have it extensively through the USA we just call it divorce with alimoney/child support. I know a lot of Ex's that claim to be over and done and they are still fooling around.

Strongly disagree. Some eccentric show that Mr. Hanks produces in Canada is not going to change the landscape. We still have much greater issues to address like racial bias and gender bias, including homosexuality. You may think we're all living in harmony, but if you examine closely the subtleties and biases are still there, we still have a long way to go.
