Scoot! Shoo!!........ I am not fond of snakes!! I would be walking on all the furniture by now. scared scared
even if you knew it wasn't poisonous and it's bite might feel like an ant? seriously, this little sucker isn't likely to harm a flea.

It slithers! That's enough for me. laugh laugh

Me too, no slithering for me....

*pouts*

where does that creep-factor come from? is it learned?

i never saw anyone be scared of a snake or spider until i was almost an adult...so i didn't teach that to my kids, either.

although jordan is reaaaally over-the-top with it. she catches things constantly, more than any boy i've ever known.

Well I can only speak for myself at the moment however I do know countless people who are scared of them.In my case it was not learned behavior but more so a traumatic experience when I was very young.I was called in for supper but I forgot my toy cars so I ran back to retrieve them. When I reached down to pick them up I was looking to-wards the rear of the back yard near the fence.OMG! Lulu;I saw this HUGE snake coiled around the post & climbing to-wards the top.I don't ever remember being that scared in my entire life.Honestly,I don't think that I ever got over that.Traumatic experiences from childhood leave very deep impressions apparently.I did not mean to upset U sweetheart.I'm sorry. flowerforyou

you're forgiven. *grins*

but where did that fear come from? if i'd seen a snake, i would have waved...for it to be traumatic, the snake would have had to come after me and try to eat me, lol.

my grandmother used to live in the middle of BFE, and we lived with her for a time. a small house with a back part added on...the back bathroom was put in by my teenaged uncle.

i went to the bathroom, and while i was back there, a copperhead crawled up through the hole by the plumbing...it was a big sucker...and it sat in that bathroom with me for what felt like hours before slithering away. i didn't move.

when it left, i stood up and tried to walk out and fell on my face. both legs were completely numb...yeah...

So you have 2 children, 2 cats, and you're a vegetarian. Not sure what type of snake you have down there in Arkansas, but you may want to gently release it back into the wild so it can eat and survive. I realize, many people are afraid of snakes, I am not one of them, and it would seem you are not either. This is good. However, given the above household scenario, it may be best to release the snake and thank him for visiting. I think I heard once that snakes can go about a month on a single meal, which would probably be a small rodent. Who knows when this snake last ate, and it is probably hungry, so I'd let him go.

he's a baby, and they don't eat in the first five days or so.

i really should update my profile...no cats since we moved. my landlord HATES cats. oh, and i have four kids, not two.

i really feel it should be released. i'm concerned, however, because she's already shown the neighbor kids. the last one we released, they caught and ended up killing by accident.

i've tried to impress that she's taking responsibility for it's life by catching it. it's up to her to make certain it gets released safely.

I agree, it's probably best to release, I would be saddened if the snake was injured or starved from hunger. Maybe if you're concerned about the neighborhood kids, you could find a nice peaceful meadow or grove of bushes you could set him free at. If the snake is really young, I'm guessing it would feast on grubs or insects to survive. When I was young, growing up in Michigan, I used to catch wild animals and insects all the time, but my parents convinced me to release to ensure the animals' survival.

same here. it was very important to me that it be safely returned to the wild.

i've caught birds, crawdads, frogs, fish, snakes, lizards...squirrels...all sorts of cool things. we always let them go.

i love educating the kids...finding a snake or a spider and then having them look it up and report on it. i need to put up the tarantula pics, they are awesome.

About 3 years ago, I found 3 baby birds that were either injured or weak, like they had fallen out of their nest. I gathered them up and put them in a Sam Adams box, gave them some warm bedding, water, and food. In about 2 weeks, they were strong enough to fly away. happy

I miss my pet python

and as far as the fear thing is concerned I think it is learned. My step dad is DEATHLY afraid of snakes but he grew up where there are a lot of poisonous snakes around so it is easier to educate your kids to stay away from them completely don't really wan't your son/daughter to try catching a cobra...

Some snakes will not eat in captivity. I hope you research and find out what you have so it doesn't just die. My son brought a Corn snake home once and we found it can't be kept in captivity because they usually will not eat. As much as he loved it we left it go.

i found a baby bird once as a kid, and i took it home. we kept it in a shoe box...and then in the bedroom...and then we'd open the window. in the beginning, it'd fly out and return.

one day, it didn't come home...a few months later my sister was walking outside, and a bird landed on her shoulder! chipper, of course! she brought him home, where he stayed a few weeks before taking up in the tree over the window.

my sister was the talk of the neighborhood kids...how cool to have a bird come out of nowhere and land on you.

when the rain stops, i'm going to find somewhere to release it.

where we live, there's really only three kinds of poisonous ones to worry about: copperhead, rattler, and water moccasin.

he's just a little garden snake. i have no intention of it dying...nor of keeping it. my daughter, on the other hand...

she put crickets in with him, but they might be too big, heh. i was going to let him go this evening, but it's pouring and the neighbor kids are watching...hmmm...

noway noway Once when my son was about 4 he came running to tell me there was a big spider in his room. So here I go thinking awwww no biggie spiders don't freak me out I will just kill it.....

Well got in his room and he pointed it went under the bed no problem I will get the broom and hit it first wack and it will be dead... Went and got the broom and got on my knees to see this spider that was freaking my son out.

WEll ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh **** I was looking face to face at a Big azz Tarantula instead shshsh have no clue where it had come in the house at....... after killing it for hey a spider is one thing but now I get the hibbie jibbies when it comes to tarantula's. I got the caulk gun out and plugged every hole I could find....

I would have probably had a heart attack. I am terrified of all spiders.
