Topic: Death Penalty | |
---|---|
America still enforces its death penalty, yet when I look at various countries there are many who had abolished it.
Now the funny thing about this is that many of the countries who had abolished the death penalty have less crime. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Should we be looking into other countries that have the least amount of crime and see what they are doing to help incorporate that idea into our system? Or is it different for this country because of its diverse idealogies? Are you for the death penalty or against it? Tell me why and what should be done to keep a safer country for everyone that lives in it. Be realistic about this. This is no joke. This input could spark a new idea that perhaps a Congressman could even be reading at this moment. Yes I know, this might not be the case, but you never know! What can be done to help keep our streets safer to where the death penalty would never be used in the future? |

I am against it...however our country is so violent based that all seem to love it here. An eye for an eye mentality and a thirst for revenge seems to be the popular vote. I for one want nothing to do with the decision to take one's life. We have become a very blood thirsty nation....very sad.

How can we change this mentality to where we can live in a more safer environment for every citizen? What would you do if this responsiblity was burdened on you? |

the death penalty has nothing to do with the crime rate at all.

the death penalty has nothing to do with the crime rate at all. Perhaps you are right, but if one knows that they would receive a death penalty for what they had done, which would have something to do with a crime, wouldn't that make them more scared to do whatever it was and not to commit the crime in the first place. I mean the death penalty was created for those who commit crimes wasn't it? Yet crime continues and people sit in electrical chairs each day ending their lives for what they have done or lethal injections or whatever they use today. So if the death penalty isn't meant for those who commit crimes then what was it used for? If a country abolishes the death penalty wouldn't that make those who do crime do more crime! I mean what will happen to them if they sit in jail a few years is the mentality I could imagine they would have as opposed to one that knows that if they do wrong they could end up getting a death penalty. I mean if "death penalty" isn't a solution for this country then what would be a solution to help decrease the crime rate in some of the most dangerous cities in the nation? I am just curious to know if anyone has a ultimate solution? |

I live peace and non violence...I teach my children. I am example to those who know me, I pray and meditate for peace..other than that I just don't know what to do. I wish I could do more... |

I guess in the end my main questions would be is why those countries that abolished the death penalty have less crime then those countries who enforce the death penalty or use it?
Any clue why that is? Does it have to do with education, lifestyle, believe system.... what have you? |

The countries that abolished it, did there crime rate go down afterwards? Or was there crime rate just lower to begin with?
Are these countries less populated? Guess I would need more info. I personally am for it. What might I do to lower crime? I think more community programs for young kids growing up with only one parent (big brothers big sisters) would help somewhat. And conceal carry law has proven to lower crime in the states that have it. |

And conceal carry law has proven to lower crime in the states that have it. What gets me is those suggestions you give must have been thought up by some Senator or Congressman right? What is preventing it from passing a law to decrease the crime rate? Is it because it could interfere the prosperity of business if suddenly we wouldn't have crime in the country? What do I mean by that? Crime is a business isn't it. Lawyers are involved, weapons, judges, bail outs, paperwork, services, etc. etc. Sometimes I wonder if the government or maybe as ironic as it might seem the people really don't want to find a solution to the problem. Concerning the countries that abolished the death penalty you could do a light research on it to see the difference. There have been so many statistics, reports, journals, and those who study this posted on the internet to give various opinions. I mean even if a country had a low crime rate from the beginning that should be a reason to research why they have a low crime rate and how they keep it low today. Maybe such information could help this country. What do you think? |

I can't say that I know if it was brought up by polititians. I voulenteer for big brothers and the amount of kids that are in it there just aren't enough big brothers for kids. Maybe I should have said more involvement in it. What is preventing it from passing a law to decrease the crime rate?
In my state we don't have it and the congressman who wrote the bill ended up voting against it. I'm still trying to figure that one out. But it all came down to scrath my back I'll scratch yours kinda thing I guess. As for doing research on those others that will have to wait for another day for me. A fews drinks in me and I don't feel like researching anything. Besides you wrote the OP |

Well I can tell you that I have travelled a few countries where you crime isn't a issue. They are at a all time minimum in many parts of the country also. Maybe I am just living in the wrong town here in the states to be so paranoid. Miami is full of crazy lunatics floating around. In the end if you compare statistics with the US you will see that it is significantly higher in violence and crime to alot of countries that don't enforce the death penalty. I just dont' get it, but I will have to do some more research myself to see why that is. |

You have to remember also we don't have it in every state. So it's kinda hard to really go off numbers for the entire country. It would have to be more a state by state thing.
We don't have it in Wisconsin. Our crime was up a few years ago in my city. We got a new sherif and now a new police chief and they have implemented different policies and our crime rate has lowered significantly this year. |

Just joking It is very true what you say. I guess the US is very hard to make a complete statistic. Like you said each state is different. Bravo for that Sherrif and Police Chief you got! I guess my questions would concentrate primarily for those states that have high crime rates and enforce the death penalty. |

Wisconsin? Is that a state. Where is that?
Come on now Where do you think beer and cheese comes from! |

Wisconsin isn't much of a state (Tj is gonna get me for that one)
I did some looking one the internet and from different sites I have seen, I don't see a consistency in states with or without the death penalty. meaning...some of the states without it are just as bad as with it and vice versa. don't other countries either have it or don't have it as a whole where here it's up to the states? I could be wrong...this is just what I was looking at |

I always watch those famous California Cow commercials here in Miami! Can you believe that. And I thought cheese came from there
and the beer. I thought that was in Colorado Just playing! What state you from again?? Just joking again. Well at least Halloween feels like Halloween where you live. Try Halloween in Miami with 90 degrees, sandy beach, and palm trees, and enough humidity to think you have breathing problems. Anyway those big issues such as the death penalty and crime are hard to tackle. Whatever it is worth, I hope good decisions will be made in the future. |

Yellowrose I can tell you that Florida is pretty bad with crime. I mean I just watched something about a 7 year old child found dead at a landfill. It is big on the news everywhere here in Florida.
Just alot of sick bastards running around over here. As a parent I am concerned. Concerning death penalty there are alot of countries that have abolished it completely in every region. No death penalty at all, but again many of the countries are smaller then the US. Afterall the US is like the third largest country in the world right? Russia and China being bigger only. In the end such serious topics do take a long time to resolve when you have so many states in a country. Then what makes it difficult is that each state has different types of laws that go with that. |

I know. I was saying that looking through past stats etc...I didn't see that it really had an effect one way or another. but that is just several sites I went too. I can't be sure...just seems that way.
personally I would rather do whatever needed to make crime go down...whether it's education, rehab, death penalty...whatever it is. I just don't know the answer to it though. I wish I had a solution |
