I was wondering if its really true about women and bad boys. If not you have nerds, jocks, army guys ect. What is your opinion on dating and stereotypes.

Ask you self how you chose your clicks onto profiles. Women are the same as us, I think, on this point. There is a point to be reflected upon... Often people, male and female, choose the same "type". This has to do with "familiarity" and previous experience. Not that they want to meet the same type, they just "fall" often for the same type... Nothing to do with stereotyping but with moods, desires etc. How often have you clicked upon a photo because it was a little revealing ? I know I am not the type to look for physical appearance first and still, given a choice, I expect my self to click one type more then an other. When I walk through the streets, legs will attract me more then breasts. Not stereotyping, just what one likes more or is more familiar with... Then also, you do not like to be bored so you choose "adventure" over boring even more while young. Should give you a few thoughts to follow up to get your answer. Bernard |

I don't like to stereotype; the integrity, success, or personality of a person shouldn't be gauged by their looks (although is happens everyday). A guy who dresses the part of biker is not necessarily a biker; anyone who only dates a guy for looking a biker will put up with him only because they like bikers.
Some people do base their attraction on status (success, money, money, money and power) and to me that is stereotyping by appearance. "He drives a Jag, wears Armani so he must be a lawyer". If I liked any 'ol guy that wore expensive suites, I would be stereotyping all Jag driving, Armani wearing guys as lawyers. I call those serial gold diggers. "Nice car; what do you do?" There is also the anti-attraction because of stereotyping: strippers, rappers, single moms, religious folks, etc. Largely, we are attracted to certain TYPES (hair color, height, body type, eye color, ethnicity, etc). There is no getting around that fact. I prefer to think of my attraction in terms of PREFERENCE. For example, I prefer tall, lean, tattooed, tanned, surfer types. That is my preference. I do not, however, attach a stereotype as to his personality, education, or station in life. If he collected tin cans to make a living and he treated me respectfully -- that is all that matters. To throw a curve ball in this entire discussion, we are human. Preferences and needs change daily. I won't be surprised if I fall for a shorter-than- me, dark haired, and tattoo-less, more-to-love hunter! Who knows? Love is strange and wonderful. |
