well according to roman catholicism, everyone is saved. even if you die
and don't repent you still are saved because god's love is soooooooo strong that he would never wish us to be in hell...which raises the question is there a hell? and then, what is the point of catholicism? and even further, if you can still go to heaven, even after killing mass amounts of people or sleeping around with everyone's spouse or taking god's name in vain a billion times or believing that there is more than one god, what is the point of having christianity or any religion for that matter? |

woah no disrespect but I do not support Roman Catholicism, it is a
branch that is COMPLETELY different in beliefs. Under the Christian umbrella, they have their separate beliefs that are highly controversial to other Christians. I do NOT believe in the purgatory notion. So I just wanted to clear that up. When you go referring to specific branches of religion be mindful that it does not represent the entire body of Christianity. |

Aznguy you have a point.
Not about the Catholics but about hell. The currently accepted 'Hell' never really existed but instead is a mistranslation or misrepresentation of the meaning used when the prophets were talking about dieing. First mistranslation Sheol to the word Hell. This mistranslation occurs 31 times in the Old Testement. Sheol means a pit in the ground where the dead are placed (a Grave). Second mistranslation Gehenna to the word Hell. This mistranslation occurs 11 times in the bible. Gehenna means 'steep sided gorge or valley' and refers to the Valley of Hinnon Third mistranslation Hades to the word Hell. This mistranslation occurs 10 times. Hades means a concealed place for dead people (A rich mans grave) Fourth mistranslation Tartarus (or in some books Tartoo) to the word Hell. This mistranslation occurs 1 time. Tartarus means 'a deep dark abyss, a place of restraint, or incarceration' and is the place where the dragon, the serpant of old, satan the devil will be thrown (the bottomless pit). So once again I ask. Which hell. Tartarus is reserved for Satan and is the only mention of this word in the bible. so will we go to the grave or to the Vally of Hinnon. (which by the way Judas bought a small portion of with his blood money.) |

Oka AB that's nice and all but you missed the point. His
statement in no way reflects the entire body of Christian believers. Please don't rely on Dante's Inferno for an overview on Christianity. It is from the Roman Catholicism angle. |

“if you can still go to heaven, even after killing mass amounts of people or sleeping around with everyone's spouse or taking god's name in vain a billion times or believing that there is more than one god, what is the point of having christianity or any religion for that matter?” All religions aren’t necessarily focused on morals. In fact, the world would be in a lot worse shape than it already is if the only thing that kept people from doing nasty things religion. In fact, a lot of nasty acts are actually carried out because of religions, this especially true with respect to wars. Almost all of the conflict in the middle east is all due to religious differences. Although there are certainly other motivations involved as well, but one thing to think about is that those other motivations might not even exist if the religious difference hadn’t existed in the first place to divide people so. Unfortunately, religions have a history of dividing nations rather than pulling them together. I personally don’t believe in Christianity. I believe it is an entirely man-made religion for the purpose of attempting to control the morals of men. (This is just my honest opinion). I personally much prefer the pantheistic type religions that put more focus on creation itself, rather than on the moral behaviors of individual for the purpose of either being rewarded with eternal afterlife or being punished with eternal damnation. In fact, I believe the latter threat of being punished with eternal damnation can actually drive people to doing bad things. Especially if they feel unloved or unaccepted by society. After all, if they feel unloved by people who act like they will be going to heaven, then the unloved person is going to feel like he or she would not want to go to that place anyway and spend eternity with all those unloving persons. So it can actually backfire and have the affect of driving someone off the deep end. I feel that religions where people revere each other instead of focusing on their own salvation is a much healthier outlook on life. I also believe that the picture of a pantheistic god is a much more loving picture. I therefore believe that the pantheistic view must be more correct, simply because I feel that god must surely be more compassionate than me. And I would choose to be a pantheistic god. I strongly support and endorse loving religions that worship creation, and view all people and life as one. I believe that these loving religions also help to make people realize that our mother earth is something more than just a big rock. This has been a personal opinion in response to aznguy concerning his question of why any religion for that matter? |

I did not rely on dantes inferno.
The above information is from a paper on the meaning of the words themselves in hebrew from the old testement and New Testement. The actual meaning of and words used in the orginal manuscripts which were mistranslated to the word HELL in our current versions of the Bible. When you see the word hell it was mistranslated from one of the four words Sheol, Gehenna, Tartarus and Hades. These four words are the ACTUAL words used hell is the word they were falsely translated into. ETERNAL HELL DOES NOT EXIST. Sheol is the grave, Hades means a rich mans grave, Gehenna is a valley where they bury the poor or criminals and Tartarus is reserved for the imprisonment of Satan. wonder how many other words were misrepresented. |
