Topic: Ghosts...no, seriously. | |
---|---|
If the above is true, then we can not even be certain if we are correctly perceiving reality at all. Everything then, is simply subject to our own perceptions and we as individuals are the ones who actually define reality and decide what is 'real.' Hallo...?? We've already argued ourselves bloodied in the neck in the "reality" thread in this forum over what the jist is of your objection here, and we more-or-less agreed (more less than more) on the very thing you find objectionable here. Reading assignment! |

I once lived in house where a murder had occurred
seems the husband had killed his wife and there was this spot of old blood on the wood floor that everyone had tried and tried to scrub out and it kept coming back one night about midnight we saw a shape floating around the room. It hovered over the spot on the floor and then dissapeared. We told everyone but no one believed it a couple nights later around midnight the shape reappeared, floated around the room and hovered over the spot on the floor and dissapeared so a couple of our friends from the church decided to come over and watch for the ghost. sure enough right at midnight it appeared and hovered over the spot my friend the Deacon called out "why are you here? is there something you want to tell us?" we heard this aweful moan and clear as day we heard the ghost say, "Have you tried OxyClean?" |

All senses are electrical impulses that are decoded by the brain. Ah Bushi my old friend and loyal opponent, you always seem to force me to take up the opposing banner. (Not my fault, it's just the electrical impulses decoded by my brain. )
I keep going back to the Remote Viewing phenomenon, since it's the easiest one to use as an example. Now this is not to say that Remote Viewing doesn't involve electrical impulses in the brain, but if one considers that all senses are electrical impulses decoded in the brain, then one must conclude that Remote Viewing involves something more than the classic "five senses", since it is essentiall "non-local" in nature. And it seems to me that since it is possible to perceive things through means other than the "classic" senses, then I see no reason to rule out the possibility of perceiving things than cannot be registered by those senses. And as I said before, that doesn't mean that the interpretation has nothing to with electrical impulses in the brain. It only means that it is possible that the thing perceived was perceived through some means other than the classic senses. I had never thought of this before. |

I do a full moon ritual and summon them to come... Oyvey. I mooned my school principal in grade seven, too, and she came, too. She was a lonely, bitter, frustrated woman. A member of the communist party, so no self-respecting man would ask her for a date. Bite me wux...so much animosity for me...a stranger you know nothing about. Sorry your life sucks so bad! |

Expectations meet flawed perception equal strange unexplainable experiences, couple that with the fact our consciousness literally erases and recreates experiences and hides data from our awareness and nothing extraordinary or paranormal is needed to explain any of these occurrences.
Bushidobillyclub Who decides if a perception is "flawed?" (Seriously, who decides?) ".....and nothing extraordinary or paranormal is needed to explain any of these occurrences. " of course not if you can explain it away with the claim that .. "Our consciousness literally erases and recreates experiences and hides data from our awareness.." ..as if 'our consciousness' is a separate entity from us, or has a motive for erasing and recreating experiences and hiding data from our awareness. That claim itself requires a lot of explaining. |

Seriously though, I see shadows crossing the road sometimes when I driving through the desert coming back from the lake or crossing the reservation, I think it's the energy of animals that have been hit crossing the road. Have you ever read Carlos Castenadas? The first book? |

Bite me wux...so much animosity for me...a stranger you know nothing about. Sorry your life sucks so bad! That's it!! You're off my Valentine's list. I am not animous. I just don't use smilies or emoticons, so people don't know my intentions (jostling, humour, banter, compliment, devotion, etc.) So please forgive me for seeming like hateful of your conviction. I did not mean to hurt you or your feelings. Sorry. |

I've never seen one. I did see one in a picture that I know is legit.
It was my son's B-day party. It was daytime and his mother took a picture of the table with the cake on it. In one of the chairs was the ghost of her mother. It was a new camera with new film. She died two years before that party. There is no way anyone will ever convince me that her spirit wasn't there |

Have you ever encountered one? About 25 years ago, I went to work early and was setting up, was the only one there. I felt someone put their finger on my shoulder, as if to get my attention and I turned around saying "what?". There was no one there. To this day, I can still feel it. Another time, I saw one floating as I sat and watched out a window late one night. You? Yes I have seen, heard and felt spirits..all of my life starting at the age of 6yrs old and every day since..They seem to be attracted to me. |

I do a full moon ritual and summon them to come... Lady- I would Love to Join you some time. Honestly. I had a feeling we were kindred spirits. *smile* Before My Finace' died in 1991, he lived in my Family home with us. My entire Family saw, sensed, heard, or smelled him in that house for years after. Wow, I certainly have done my fair share of thinking about him this evening... I am betting he will visit me in my Dreams tonite... Kinda makes me want to go close my eyes... |

..as if 'our consciousness' is a separate entity from us, or has a motive for erasing and recreating experiences and hiding data from our awareness. That claim itself requires a lot of explaining. Its true it does require quite a bit of explaining, this is a very deep topic, one I myself am a novice at. However its true, and can be demonstrated repeatedly, unlike ghosts. There are many experiments of perception that show this to be true. One involves tapping on the arm, where the perception of the event is that a small creature is running up your arm even tho the actual stimulus never leaves a fixed spot. I know that no one is going to be satisfied by my vague memory of these experiments, so Ill try to dig them up. But the jist is that our minds fashion together stimulus to create a plausible scenario, and wipe out the initial stimulus if it doesn't fit. (this happens very quickly (less then a second), and if the stimulus is spread out too much, the mind is not fooled, and all of the stimulus is remembered.) Another experiment involves flashing lights, I remember this one better, so will try to explain it. Imagine 3 lights separated by about an inch or so, ok. They flash a single time each one right after the other, in a specific direction. If we make this slow enough, its clear that its three separate flashes. But at a certain speed, our consciousness decides its more plausible that its a single speeding blinking dot, and CREATES the perception of flashes in between in the gaps where there is literally NO light whatsoever, but we still see it, and if we didn't know better we would swear there was light from those locations . . . This is true for EVERYONE. Its just how our brains work, it takes stimulus and has built in pattern recognition that makes this stimulus make sense even if it has to make up stuff, or wipe out the initial memory of the starting stimulus. ___________ Disclaimer: I am open minded, I would love to find real demonstrable evidence for ghosts or other paranormal events, but again extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Taking the stance of skepticism IMHO is the default stance, so I require no evidence to be skeptical of a claim, claims must be proven not the other way around. My examples are just that; examples of when the consciousness is tricked, it shows an alternative that is mundane, and repeatable that is it. I make no claims to the accuracy of anyone's perceptions regarding anecdotes. So don't be offended. |

Thanks Billy, that's very interesting. One has to wonder why this happens and if we are perceiving reality accurately at all.
