I'm aiming for a certification in MSCE. I work as a guard at ATEML (Advance Technology in Memory and Logic). I've talked to one of the bosses who runs the I.T department at ATMEL and told him that I'll be joining him soon as I end up getting my MSCE certification. He ends up telling me not to do it because its not what I think it is. Question is, is it really that bad?

real experience is more valuable than this cert.

I agree. Though certs can get you in some doors. I personally hate Microsoft exams. I have an MCP but don't plan on more. I'm a Cisco guy though and imo Hardware >>>> software. But when the majority of issues with Microsoft can be fixed with a reboot and that's never the right answer then there's something fishy slaphead

Ok, I am MCSE, but that really doesn't mean much, because i took the test for server 2000. Now on paper it looks good, and if you ever find yourself needing a job it is helpful, however at this point, you can no longer take the MCSE, it is now the MCITP, which FYI i went for the refresh, and it is a Nightmare to take... They no longer have Books for the test, so guessing on a newer OS is not my idea of fun...

If i were you, and you wanted to take the test, i would hold off till they release some literature on it.

There was one question on the test, that i cant seem to figure out..
maybe you would know, or someone else...

How do you modify account settings in active directory for an account that is not yet setup? and you cant use Group policy, or any kind of scripting on a 2k8 server?

I set the account settings in Group policy and got it wrong.. so i dunno wtf they wanted... LOL

From the above posts... "Hardware Expert" hahahahhaha

If you NEED the MCSE to advance then good. If not then why?

Really, I've been in the computer industry for over 20 years. Yes, Zenith Heathkit, to Vic, TI, PC, Compaq... A+ certification is "ok" but WHY? These programs were developed to take "NO" it all to "know" it a little... LOL

Really, decide what it is that you need to get you from point A to point B. IF it includes any of the above then YES. If NOT then go to college and get a degree. NEVER skimp on the education factor in today's job market when the higher hand is held by a person with a college degree......

No MORE MCSE... It is expired..
MCITP is what you need to look into 83-640 (dont quote me on it)

Hmmm... course 83-640? I don't think they even have that where I'm going to school at. So far we're working on Server 2003 which is 70-690 and it looks like a lot of fun. But since I don't know what Server 2008 is about, perhaps my instructor may know. I had already heard that 70-291 is the worst and hardest of them all. After getting certified in MCSE, I'll aim for MCITP and see what its all about. But yeah, I'll wait for them to come out some kind of resource books or what not to know more about it. Maybe Microsoft's website may have some more info on it although I learned that their tests are now being focused in a real world situation instead of stupid questions that doesn't relate to it like Comp Tia tests.
