With all the talk of health care reform, I thought it might be interesting for folks to post some real-world ridiculous health care cost you have seen on an actual hospital or medical bill. Example (fictional): Fifty bucks for two aspirin during my over-night stay in the hospital. I have heard many exclamations over the years from relatives or friends that have either been in the hospital, or had to under-go certain medical testing procedures. Here's one real-world example... my mother was sent by her regular physician to a podiatrist. The podiatrist recommended she get some special insoles for her shoes. She ordered them at his request. When she got the bill, the insurance company refused to pay for them, and she was sent a bill for $400 for two insoles. Later, she found the very similar product in a mail order catalog... for $9.95... and she said the one's she bought from the mail-order company fit her feet much better than the ones specially fit and ordered by the podiatrist. She has no recompence or way to get her money back for the $400 she spent in the medical system. Perhaps you have heard of some ridiculous medical bill or story? Rather than arguing health care issues here (as in current events, etc...) simply tell us your ridiculous health care expense story. Telephoneman. $2000.00 a month, not covered by insurance, for my MS shots is the worse for me I will never ever understand why in this day and age medicine has to cost that much money. |

Now I know why insurers are really threatened by all the bills right now, but also know why they have become such a monopoly. Guess they hoped we wouldn't be all that interested in what's going on. |

Thank God I was never sick enough in the past 5yrs..beside a small surgical thing (only 10 minutes) to my eye, which i had to pay out of my pocket.

anyone heard the story about the baby who was denied medical coverage for "being too fat" ?
http://www.wafb.com/Global/story.asp?S=11313964 You got the mafia running health insurance for years and nobody does nothing. Good luck! ![]() (WFLX) - A 4-month-old baby is denied health coverage because he's too fat. Alex Lange weighs 17 pounds and is 25 inches long. He's in the 99th percentile which means he weighs more than 99 percent of babies his age. His parents were shocked by his rejection saying Alex is just a healthy baby. "They said I would be covered, and my son, Vincent who is 2, would be covered. But Alex, because he's too fat, we're not going to cover him unless he can drop under the 95th percentile," stated his father. Too bad. The baby should have worked out or eat less, right? ![]() |

Colorado insurer changes course on fat infants By The Associated Press Posted: 10/12/2009 03:18:25 PM MDT Updated: 10/12/2009 06:42:15 PM MDT Kelli Lange says she's "not going to withhold food" from her baby Alex to get him under the 95th percentile. Colorado insurer changes course on chubby baby Oct 10: Heavy infant in Grand Junction denied health insurance DENVER — A Colorado insurance company is changing its attitude about fat babies. Rocky Mountain Health Plans said Monday that it will no longer consider obesity a "pre-existing condition" barring coverage for hefty infants. The change comes after the insurer turned down a Grand Junction 4-month-old who weighs about 17 pounds. The insurer deemed little Alex Lange obese and said the infant didn't qualify for coverage. The infant's father works at NBC affiliate KKCO-TV in Grand Junction and news accounts about the boy's rejection made national headlines. The insurer said Monday it would change its policy for babies that are healthy but fat. The company attributed the boy's rejection for health coverage to "a flaw in our underwriting system." http://www.denverpost.com/ci_13545594 anyone heard the story about the baby who was denied medical coverage for "being too fat" ? http://www.wafb.com/Global/story.asp?S=11313964 You got the mafia running health insurance for years and nobody does nothing. and yet, even after all this quick and shocking news about how the individual states are "handling" medical care and insurance, and these prime examples of why insurance companies (and in some cases doctors themselves) have to be put in check, people are still complaining and b!tch!ng about President Obama trying to make a country wide plan that would effectively stop all of this widespread abuse.
The ONLY way this is going to end is if there is a country wide plan, that makes it impossible for the insurance agencies to have any kind of authority like this. ![]() ![]() Oh my god, i heard that today, a woman testifying to congress that her insurance company said they would help her if she was sterilized.
