Since it came up...My sister got bc a year before I did @ 44. (01)At the time was small breasted. She nagged me to get a mammo- yea, yea. 8 months later went for the 1st time. MD came in- "you're fine" and "when was the last time you did a exam". He showed me how and lo and behold...there it was on the right side attached to the chest wall. On the muscle so everything had to be taken down to the bone and replacement almost non existant except a extremely painful procedure where they would pull my shoulder blade muscle from back to front to start. She said (surgeon) that if I thought the first time was painful this was be 2 plus years of healing.
MY POINT IS- DO YOUR own self exams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
A little more than 20 percent of breast cancers do NOT show up on mammos.

Please be diligent...the oncologist also told me to hold my arm close to my body and put my fingers in my arm pit and feel for lumps that way...it is a very accurate way of doing the under arm part. Check around your breast- not just the breast also.
Do your research also. After my cancer- I was looking up my old hometown and discovered it was a 'HOTSPOT' for B.C. I've since wondered what were they shipping into our supermarkets in the mid 60's as a new trial? when there were no other reasons and surrounding towns were clear (my baby sister died of lukemia in 71 ). Insurance companies have maps of all the hot spots also...thats why premiums can be higher from one town to the next for certain things.
