I prefer honesty over everything... If you have a need to lie to your partner(because that is what i am assuming this relates to) than it shows a certain level of distrust towards them and without trust what do you really have? ![]() and jam I suppose ![]() |

my mom always said
"It's not nice to hurt people's feelings. If you must badmouth someone, be sure to do it behind their back" |

Being the only honest person in a room full of liars is like being the only sober person at a party full of drunks. You know you're doing the right thing, but you have to put up with a bunch of bull.

Do people really want to know the truth about others? I find it very terrifying. We all, well, most of us have been taught to lie. Don't care who you are, we all have told lies to our selfs and others. What is it about people today who need to know everything about somebody. Look, I was engaged once yrs back and trust me I didn't tell her everything and I did not want to know all her "dirty little secrets". And we hear it from a lot of people when they say... "oh, i'm a brutally honest person". Oh yeah, when its convenient for you. I have never met one and doubt I ever will. Come on, lets all be honest here... no pun intended ![]() Dirty little secrets are not lies. They are dirty little secrets. You can't show me one person in this world who doesn't have any. |

It's been my experience that when ppl say they always want honesty and appreciate it, what it really means is that they want it only if it's what they want to hear. There is a big difference between knowing when to be brutally honest and when to tell the truth with tact and gentleness.
I would always prefer a direct answer to a direct question. I don't need to be protected from the truth. If someone has to lie to me about anything, maybe they shouldn't be doing what they're doing. It hurts more when when you find out you've been lied to than hearing the truth from the onset. |

That is SO true. I'd much rather hear the truth, and frankly, some of us can tell when the other person is lying - at least I'm fairly good at it. Lying will only cause question and lack of trust, so if you feel you have the need to lie to someone (a partner mainly), then maybe it's just time to move on. |
