A US mother has been arrested after her 14-year-old son said he was held prisoner for four and a half years - spending most of his time locked in a wardrobe. Skip related content
A security guard called police in Oklahoma City after the malnourished teenager turned up with numerous marks and other signs of abuse.
"He was hungry. He was dirty. He had numerous scars on his body. It was very sad,"
Police Sergeant Gary Knight said.
The boy was taken to a hospital to be examined and then put in the custody of the Department of Human Services.
Police arrested the boy's mother, LaRhonda Marie McCall, 37, and a friend, 38-year-old Steve Vern Hamilton, over child abuse and neglect allegations.
Formal charges have not been filed but both were being held on a £250,000 bond, according to jail records.
police report listed McCall as a pharmaceutical company employee and Hamilton as a cab driver.

The boy, wearing only a pair of oversized shorts held up by a belt, walked up to the security guard on Friday.

He asked where a police station was located so he could report being abused, according to a police report.
The boy claimed scars on his stomach were from where alcohol had been poured on him and set alight. Other scars were from being tied up, hit with an extension cord and choked, he added.
"He had scars covering most of his body. They were basically from head to foot,"
Sgt Knight said.
The teenager said he moved to the Oklahoma City area from New Jersey about four and a half years ago, after his mother was released from jail.
But, since arriving in Oklahoma state, he had never been to school and spent most of his time locked in a bedroom wardrobe, he said.
The boy told police the wardrobe's door was mostly blocked with a stepladder or a bed and that he managed to push it open enough to escape and leave the house.

OMG!! That is awful!! It's just wrong!!

Actually to call the accused "animals" is an insult to all animals. They don't treat their young this way.

To, to awful for words. The worst part is that this type of crime is being perpetrated against our children, our defenseless children every second of every day. My late husband worked with these kids his whole life. He saved a few, many maybe...the world needs more people like my late husband who give a damn and act on it! There are things we can all do to make a difference...report suspected abuse. Pay attention to that kid getting yelled at and even smacked in the grocery store...pay attention when a friend of your child is always wanting to sleep over and always wanting to stay for supper, yet your child never stays over at the other home...if we pay attention and have the courage to act we can maybe save a child.

I know I have over simplified this, I have way to much knowledge, just wanting to say to all of us, we can make a difference if we just follow our gut when we 'feel' something is not right.

I am not sure how someone can treat ANY living thing like that, much less a child, I say lock them up and throw away the key!! And I am NOT a vengefull person BUT there are exceptions!!

That is so terrible and disgusting. excuting them is to good for them.They should be put in jail and throw the key away.Let them suffer in jail.

That makes me sick to the stomach. I literally can not eat after reading about cases like this.



The Mom and Friend should spend the rest of their lives in prison.

Why do that..My girl just turned 15-teen today..I love her with all my life.. a perfect mother i have not been ,mistakes I have made & will make..but I hope to work through them with her we are talking about it,things from the past,present.the good,the bad,the sad,maybe it was my mistake,or someone elses,but I am here for her always in the end..If you no longer want your child..Just turn them over to a relative or friend,or child services,Yes your still a JERK!But a responseable one..To say I can't deal anymore,or I don't want this any longer,or whatever..Just there is never a reason to hurt a child..PERIOD.. or anybosy should never be abused..like that..God bless him..there was a smiliar story here..where a young man was chained to his bed..and only fed like soup a few times a week.and he was sick to boot..he's still having a lot of medical trouble over this..

As I said, every second of every day. And again we can each make a difference, there are symptoms/clues EVERYWHERE. Fear not retribution, if you are wrong - no harm, no fault. If you are correct, you may save a life.
