After All

You would think they would tire,
Meeting at the same place, their table,
Fixing the world's woes,
Preaching their politics to change,
What isn't and should be.
Talking about the women gossiping,
Discussin, that's what they call it.
Slow and deliberate mannerisms,
Not in any particular hurry, 'cause
It'll still be there, won't go away,
At least too quickly.
You know most are prayin men,
I see em in church next to their wives.
They come in for coffee,
Every Monday and Thursday.
I call it history.
It is here they founded, built and keep
Their square of ground,
Hard Rock, red dirt.
Keep it from slipping through their hands
When the ol wind blows another round of
Dust, Oklahoma dust.
I am back here, time has stayed at this table,
Through these doors, I see these men,
perhaps in number dwindling and refilling
as the younger set file in and fills a chair,
Never the less, still here after all these years.
