So true! I just left a job where I sold among other things, major appliances - several top brands. Inside the industry it is common knowledge which might last for ten - twelve years (that is very good anymore!)and which you are lucky to get five out of! It doesn't always matter which are the most expensive either, although, a word of advice to anyone looking to replace a major appliance...spend the extra few bucks!

My Refrigerate is a Hot Point bought it right before my daughter was born and well it is still plugging right along and she will be 25 in November ( knocking on wood) hehehe

Have and alarm clock made by GE still works got it when I was 18 hummmmm shshsh that was a long time ago heheheheeslaphead

just a random question, is it bad that I was raised off of the cheap and ghetto brands? Shopping usually involves the .99 cent store?

LOL when my roomate goes shopping he buys all this expensive stuff, and with his cash flow, it lasts a week, when I go shopping, I can stock up on food for the month. (perishables I buy the day I am going to cook them, just in case)

I usually stick to my brand names favorites too. Just tea said 'orange and black pekoe' (which is the blend i drink daily) so I thought it was worth a try! I do use inexpensive shampoo and cream rinse and have no trouble with it. I think some substitutes are as good as their more expensive counter parts...so was wondering what else works and doesn't based on others experience.

Thanks for responding all! flowerforyou

If you have a Trader Joe near you, their tea prices are usually far less than a regular grocery store and quality is just as good if not better, IMO. Actually, you can get a lot of things cheaper and better at TJ than a regular grocery store.

I think for the most part when it comes to things, you should buy the best quality you can. As for food, no matter what the label, it generally comes from the same place as the name brands. With a few exceptions, I'll buy whichever's cheapest, generic or name brand. Spending a few bucks on a subscription to your Sunday paper for the coupons can save you a lot of money, too.

Isn't that frustrating? It's happened to me more than once. The last thing I bought was a bottle of $4 wine to replace my usual $15 bottle to save money. It was undrinkable. grumble

I have seen Independent Wine Studies where they cover the bottle, put a High Price on the cheap wine and low price on the expensive wine.

Guess which one people think is better? laugh

Making your own laundry detergent, household cleaners, bread, bath/beauty products, and food preservation can save you a bundle...and they're not difficult to do.

One time I bought a generic store brand version of brown sugar-cinnamon Pop-Tarts. Big mistake. They tasted like floor tiles with seaweed on them. Never again.

When it comes to groceries, I just drop anything i want into my shopping trolley without really considering the price. But, if i could be bothered, i would definately visit a pound store for some of the items.

Something else you can do is buy things in bulk on the internet. Thats a good way to save money in the long run.
