Am I ever going to be able to sleep for 6 hours straight anymore now that I'm over 50? I know I'm sick right now but I can't remember the last time I had 6 hours of straight sleep. I hate taking sleeping pills and the dr keeps telling my hormones are fine - so what gives? I really wouldn't complain if I had some company or something to do, but I am bored to death with being up 20 hours a day. Even my job is slow right now. If I felt better I'd probably work out but with this cold I can't even think about breathing hard. My poor dogs are probably glad when I go to work so they can get some rest - LOL.

What is happening to you is normal at our age. I am thrilled when I get a whole 6 hours sleep. It's usually 4-5.
Have you tried Melatonin? Those levels tend to wane as we age, and it is not something doctors normally test for. Worth a try. Good luck. And if all else fails, I have found that there are people posting to these forums at all hours. You might find somebody to chat with.... |

That's pretty normal for people our age, when we get older our sleep patterns change. I usually wake up about every two hours (almost like clockwork), so if I have a hard time getting back to sleep I'll read and that helps or if it's close to my normal wake-up time I'll just get up, have breakfast maybe get a chore or two done. Try warm milk and I heard also melatonin can help, but not for me.

Yeap I'm the same way and I've tired all the herbs. Don't like popping a pill but I do a few times a week to keep from going nuts.

HA HA. I didn't think about that when I started the thread. Of course my brain is not working so great with lack of sleep. Well back to bed for another hour.......

I feel for you Doxie, my sleep patterns are pretty bad too. I wake about 4-5 hours after going to bed, no matter what time that was. 9 out 10 times I am then done for the night even if it is 2-3 in the morning. Sometimes i can doze a bit if I stay in bed but usually not, just toss and turn and be tortured!! Better to get up and read of sit on the deck and enjoy the night sky. (Soon be to cold for that though)
Hope your cold is better, that might help! If not your sleep troubles at least you will feel better!! |

I hear some people say they don't want to take a sleeping pill. Why is that? I think a pill is less damaging and less maddening than tossing and turning and getting up and down and running your fingers through your hair and schlepping around the house waiting for the sun to come up at which time you fall asleep and have the weirdest of dreams!

As a former drug user, I WILL NOT TAKE many drugs.
I found ther are natural things taht make EVERYTHING work just fine & natural is my choice/passion. Learn about how they figure out what is a safe dosage. Scares me. |

I've been an insomniac for years.... I stated meditating along time ago and I have found it is the only thing that works for me ...if I don't meditate I don't sleep, it's just that simple.

I don't get much sleep,I can be tired as heck and very sleepy, but as soon as my head hits the pillor I wake right up and then have a heck of a time going to sleep,I also think too much when I get in bed.I took an over the counter pill and it just made me sleepy the next day.

Do you ladies want me to hold your hand and tell you a bedtime story? LOL That would be great... especially since you are going to be awake anyway. |
