1997 Cavity.  There are two fuse boxes. One inside the car for the radio, windows, heater, and things like that. Then there is also one under the hood. In the one under the hood there should be one marked A.b.S., check the owners manual for its location. These won't be your average fuses, there much bigger. They control just about every thing that makes the car run. Just find the proper on and pop it out then start the car To make to shure all your vitals are working. You should not see any warning lights. Diffrent cars vary, but did this same fix to my grand am and worked very well. No A.B.S. means your breaks will lock in a panic stop. Keep the fuse you pop out, Every three thousand miles the light will come back on. just pop it back in, start the car to clear it, then pop it out. Easy easy fix.

You're not talking about a relay are you? About an inch by an inch with three or four prongs on the bottom? It's a relay switch. If it gets you through inspection and the brakes work, no problem. But you wont have any anti lock brakes so drive accordingly. It was a big square fuse under the hood...the ABS was marked on the cover |

You're not talking about a relay are you? I took it out and the light came on..I put it back in and the light went off. Maybe it is reset? I drove around the block, pulled in the driveway hard..the light did not come back on. About an inch by an inch with three or four prongs on the bottom? It's a relay switch. You may have reset the abs computer but you still have the original problem that caused the light to come on in the first place. |

You may have reset the abs computer but you still have the original problem that caused the light to come on in the first place. right.... for now I'll get through inspection so I don't get ticketed for expired tags... talk around and see if I can find someone to help me with the possibly bigger problem... quite possible- you also might have a short - go get it checked- cuz you only have one kind of braking system when the ABS system goes out- it shouldn't cost too much- do you know any guys that like to play with cars? they love to do that stuff- any auto parts store has it No, I don't know anyone here..let alone one who plays with cars.. Thats why I posted, thought a mechanic could tell me more. I'm thinking just a short because it only changes from on to off when I hit a bump...I don't want to get ripped off by a shop.. I appreciate you ladies responding Thank you
My two cents for what is worth Each make has a club with a website and a forum I would register on their forum and post the question I guarantee within 24 hours you get your responses. |

quite possible- you also might have a short - go get it checked- cuz you only have one kind of braking system when the ABS system goes out- it shouldn't cost too much- do you know any guys that like to play with cars? they love to do that stuff- any auto parts store has it No, I don't know anyone here..let alone one who plays with cars.. Thats why I posted, thought a mechanic could tell me more. I'm thinking just a short because it only changes from on to off when I hit a bump...I don't want to get ripped off by a shop.. If you have any guy friends that can go with you if you take your car in, take them. Also if any work is done ask for the old parts, they will try to say something needs to be "replaced" and charge you, because legally what is taken off your car is yours. Don't be affraid to ask questions too. If they say something is broken, ask them to show you and explain what is broken.
