I've done it, married an EX twice. My sons needed their father, but in the long run it didn't work out and I never should have tried the second time around.

IMHO it all depends on the two individuals involved and if they've
worked through the problems that caused them to split up in the first place. Personally, I could never get together with any of my exes, there are way too many bad memories... |

It will only work if you have all the problems worked out that led to
