So they’ve discovered a new planet and named it Gliese 581c. This thing
is 20.5 light years from earth, in it’s own solar system with it’s own star. Now I started thinking about - 20 light years - and what if 5 years ago this planet’s sun imploded, exploded and wiped out everything around it. We are still seeing a sun and a planet for the next 15 years, But, there is no source of existence behind it. We think we see something real, but it is nothing more than a vapor trail through space. |

I sometimes like to tell people they can't see where the sun is right
now. They look up in the sky and point and say, "There it is!" and I will say, "No, it takes light from the sun 8 minutes to reach the earth. What you're seeing is where the sun was 8 minutes ago." If that's too difficult for them, I tell them about the force field around the Sears Tower that makes it impossible for anyone to jump off the top of the building. |
