i am now going to sneak into andy's house and replace all his meat products with tofu. cause, you know...i hate that stuff. |

I was just reading an article yesterday about how most vegans are calcium deficient and need to take supplements to avoid osteoprosis you know...i'm not surprised. and it's not because of being a vegetarian so much as eating unhealthily. many people think being a vegetarian means to eat as much french fries as they possibly can... my calcium levels are great, as is my iron. i donate blood every two months, and they tell me they've never seen a woman with the levels i have, lol... and i do NOT supplement. healthy eating, period. |

Guess I am half vegan. I can't eat a cheeseburger without lettuce, tomato, and onion.......

I thought about trying the no meat thing considering how much it takes to get a steer to the table but it came down to do I want to have quality or quantity of life and I put a steak on the grill.

I was just reading an article yesterday about how most vegans are calcium deficient and need to take supplements to avoid osteoprosis Actually the one area Vegan suffer from greatly is protein. Many cheat using powdered protein supplements while others are gray vegans where they have an animal derived source of protein like they will eat fish or eggs. Calcium is prevalent in many vegetables like Kale and Broccoli. Again Gray vegans get calcium from cheese and milk if they do that. HARD core vegans are absolutely against eating meat or animal products in any way shape or form. Then again they are not above wearing leather like Birkenstock sandals they are so fond of. FACTS: Humans are biologically omnivorous. This is a superior survival tactic. We are not limited to food type and can survive on almost anything. Vegetarianism is a lifestyle choice. It has nothing to do with biology. A human CAN survive on just vegetables but we medically suffer for it because of our biology unless the Vegetarian carefully monitors diet and food intake so they can balance what their bodies need properly. Vegetables can contain MORE fat than meat. AVACADOS! Nuff said! Also some vegetables are very starchy. Starch can become fat. Jicama anyone? This is not exactly a medical fact BUT research so far is pointing to this little tid bit... Vegetarians are not man for man (or woman for woman) not exactly as physically strong as an omnivorous. How many Olympic gold medalists are full blown Vegan? Also research is showing Vegetarianism to have other consequences physically on a human. To me Veganism is for people without the stomach to kill what they intend to eat. There is no sin or shame in not wanting to kill anything. It is a personal choice. I lived on a ranch for a short time and also lived very rurally in the past and I have done in my share of rabbits and even a deer or two (VENISON! YUMMM) but likewise I have had pet rabbits. One of my favorite all time pets was my rabbit Scooter. That rabbit did not act like a rabbit at all. At 35 pounds I could pick her up without getting clawed to hell. She came to me when I called her. And I could let her out of her cage and she would follow me around. An Anthrax epidemic in Oregon took her along with ALL of the rabbits in the area as well as the sheep and goats. Every animal type has an exceptional somewhere. I actually let a deer I had been stalking walk away because it actually had the guts to come to me where I was hiding and I could touch it. It sniffed me and faced me for a few minuets so I let it walk away. There was no dignity or honor in that kill. Had it have done anything else it would have had a hole in its head. I have seen pigs show MORE brains than a dog. Hell, I seen one trained to use a toilet. I have bred rats as a kid. Some were incredibly smart while others were just snake food. As a meat eater I have a rule where I will not kill an exceptional specimen. The rabbits I don't eat are the ones that sniff my hand and nose it. The ones that bolt to the back of the cage are food. Even dogs in general do not exactly impress me. Many are just a@@ licking, fur shedding, hole digging slobber bags to me. Many toy breeds to me are nothing more than something to kick when it annoys me. Again some are really different like my Ex's poodle. That dog is flat out smart. Her new BF's Chihuahua on the other hand? I want to use the dog for target practice because it is a nervous barking little piece of **** that will not get near me and just barks its a@@ off at me when it is around. It is funny how my Ex's dog and cat both like me but the new dog will not even take the hint from the other animals that maybe I am not the person to be displaying like that at. I have been around strange dogs that take cues from the other dogs that know me and behave accordingly while others just don't get it at all. ...Just like humans! I just had a bad tangent... Still, I don't look down on a vegan for being a vegan. I can respect a lifestyle choice. I look down on vegans that look down their noses at me for being a meat eater. I'm not giving up my wagon wheel sized bar ba qued steak and baked potato filled with sour cream, bacon bits, and chives with a huge green salad drenched in Blue Cheese dressing with fat bits of Blue Cheese in it for NOTHING! So let us bid good tiding to those who choose not to eat animals. Vegans are people too... Now pass me the A-1 damn it! |

My daughter now 18, began a vegetarian lifestyle at about age 5 when I told her where the chicken we were eating came from.
Over the yrs she has removed from her diet those things which had to die for us to eat. Milk and other dairy, eggs are fine. No poultry, or fish, and of course no red meat. She won't wear leather either. Or use products that she knows were tested on animals. We did not give it it's life, we can't take it either. Me, if it ain't movin' or moo'in, its lunch. |

to all the vegans out there....just.....just....oh hell,go eat a celery stick and be quiet admittedly, i'm not very good at being quiet. ------------------- protein's not an issue for most of us...but that's a pretty popular misconception. our protein requirements are quite lower than most people think...and there's quite a bit of protein to be found in the vegan world. oatmeal, broccoli, beans, rice...soymilk, lentils, peanut butter, almonds...protein's everywhere. our real problem is vitamin B-12, which is much harder to come by. it's microbial in source, so it has to be added as a supplement. it's the ONLY deficiency my doctor is concerned with, as a regular vegan/vegetarian diet can easily meet all of the other dietary needs. |
