Guess they don't want the realities of war from those involved in it to reach the homefront do they?

I'm actually surprised that the "Army recently ordered all U.S. bases to provide access to Facebook. Top generals now blog from the battlefield."

I would think that they wouldn't want any of that information to get into the wrong hands.

Still there's something wrong with this to me, cutting off access that for some is one of the few ways they can communicate to their loved ones. You think that's gonna do much for their spirits? Somehow I don't think so.

I hadn't heard that though, but I'd rather have true reality being shown then a fabricated idea of it.

While i totaly agree on them being able to stay in touch with family while deployed.

I would fear some of the things that would be posted, that could put the soldiers lives in jeapardy.

If these fighting men and women don't know how to keep their mouths shut then they have problems. Charges should be brought against them as individuals. I would be very upset to find that a fellow soldier blabbed on the internet about something and put us in danger (I'm not military. Just using an example)

However, I do talk with military guys over in Iraq and Afghanistan and have not found them to be spilling secrets of plans. Course, I don't ask as I wouldn't want to be part of endangering someone. General chitchat, the weather, funny stuff, essentially light-hearted things that let them know I'm thinking about them and to stay safe.

Censorship of communication has always been a part of military life. This is hardly new and hardly shocking. I fail to see how blocking access to social networking sites will affect the troops in terms of being able to communicate with loved, there are other channels open to them, right?

I thought Obama was going to end these 2 unjustified wars.

Their tactics and stratagies maybe? Even banks block access to these sites, partly to stop people wasting time on them, partly to prevent sensitive information being posted on the Internet
