It is still a semi-government organization and the government will not allow them to fail even if means they will have to throw billions of dollars at the problem just to prop them up. How many times have they raised rates and still hasn't brought them out of their free-fall. Raising rates is not working for them and it is not endearing them to their customers. They lack the efficiencies and cost controls of their fully private brethren and they do not have to answer directly to their customers. Frankly I and many other put more trust in private package carriers than the USPS.

Like cabot said they are taking drastic measures to break even.
they have been voted the most trusted agency in the country for years, that comes straight from the customers themselves.

I hate to see someone with such aingst towards the postal service, we try to provide the best serice we can. times are tough for most businesses in this country, why would you think the postal service is any different.

Actually I am not sure what people are talking about. What's wrong with the Postal Service? When I have used it I always found them pleasant and efficient. Am I missing something?

They have been running in the red for years. The volatile fuel prices as well as email have put a dent in the profit margin.

No complaints about service, just that they are running in the red and fuel prices?

I don't know about anywhere else but the last place I lived they did away with their jeeps and people deliver the mail in their own vehicles, don't know if that helped or not.

It hasn't been years. Last year they were in the red and projected this year. Other than that they haven't.

The post office keeps shooting themselves in the foot. Constantly raising rates and not keeping up with current trends and customer needs. They have become largely irrelevant. I think it is time to privatize the USPS.

What more do you want? You can have stamps delivered to your door. Your letter will be picked up at your door if you put it on your mailbox. Delivered to whom you addressed it to within several days, depending on the distance. Seems that they are catering to the customers needs. What do you want the carrier to write the letter for you too?

Having my morning coffee ready might be nice... Just kidding. I think! I love the postal service though I haven't had much need for them in a few years as far as going to the post office. My route carriers have always been great and always made my morning waving to them on the way by. I miss the old jeeps though. I am not one to be afraid of change, but this would be one change I would miss if they went away. I also know there's a lot of pressure on postal workers too.

Ya I know... emotional... But I love our postal workers!
