I believe we and other nations are in Afghanistan because it has been used as a base for terrorist attacks. The members of the Hamburg Cell that carried out the 9/11 attacks were trained in Afghanistan. The nations first invaded Afghanistan to go after Al Qaeda and the Taliban, the group that protected and allowed Al Qaeda to train terrorists. Those are facts. Whether or not those facts are enough to justify an invasion is up to individuals. As for saying it is none of our business to invade a country because of the way people are treated, many people (including President Clinton) say that it was a disgrace how nations allowed the genocide in Rwanda and is currently allowing the genocide in Darfur. I recommend the reading of the book Forbidden Face. It describes how the Taliban treats its own people, as well as rapes, enslaves, and kills women simply due to their gender.
drinker Excellent first post. drinker I sure hope Superman rescues those damsels in distress.:smile:I pay my taxes to this country to protect OUR women (and men) from harm:smile:

Yes, I am 90% sure it is still a UN war... A pact was signed in about 1957 not to attack eachother signed by N> Korea and the UN...

You are most likely right. But...When can we start taxing the U.N. to pay for us fighting all their wars? It seem they are bankrupting us....

Why is USA in Afghanistan?

Who is the enemy?

What is considered victory?

Is it worth the effort?

Is this a top priority, even in this economic recession?

1. Al-Quaida is planning military operations against us.

2. Al-Quaida et al

3. Whenever we thwart them.

5. At what price peace and security?

6. State Dept. has it labeled as the greatest threat to our country at this time. Society needs BOTH peace and prosperity.
