Topic: Do you tip? | |

Why or why not. If you do generally what percent do you leave?

Yes I tip- from .10% or more varies...
I used to waitress, cook, and bar tend and that is how we made most of our money. |

Don't forget the hairdresser, manicurist. 10% is easier to figure but I
generally go 15%. |

Absolutely -- one of my best friends used to be a waitress at a place in
Indiana, and she told me a lot about her work. It isn't easy, and it certainly isn't always pleasant, but for the most part, she and her crew did a wonderful job of it. I don't have a real formula about how much to leave, I just pull out a few bucks and try to keep it in the general range of 20-25%. If the service is truly exceptional, I'll leave more. Once left a $20 tip on an $11 meal because the girl was so attentive.... I think it's a good idea to show some appreciation for them. They work hard and sometimes have to deal with a lot of idiots. A little encouragement and thanks for good service isn't too much to ask. |

I'm mainly asking because I got up at 2 am this morning to take 6 people
to the airport by 5. Airport is an hr away and of course I am a shuttle driver. Not one of them tipped me and the charge with the company was $125. My pay per trip is $6 so for 2 hrs of my time this morning I made $6. |

Yes I do. Most I ever left for a tip was $50 and that was just for a
donut and a coffee! Then I went back in a and needed smoke and left her another $5. |

I always tip waiters and waitresses, usually 20%. One, because it's
easier to figure in my head than 15%, which is what is supposed to be the standard, and two, because I know what a hard job it is since my daughter worked as one, I for sure could never do it. The only time I'll give less than that is if they have a really bad attitude, and even then if it's really busy I am understanding, as long as they're not downright nasty. |

I tip if the service is good. Usually its between 10-15%.
Some of the finer restaurants in Canada have an "automatic tip". |

Yes I do. When I was a teenager I carried groceries out to the car for
customers. It was common here then. I made enough money to buy a new car when I was 17. So I always try to tip well. Usually about 20% in a restaurant. They only make like $2.00 in salary. I always try to be polite and give good tips. One its just good manners but also any place I go regulary I get very good service. |

pagrby= I'll bet you were pretty upset! I guess some do not
think of the importance in tipping. If they had to live on tips I am sure they would of thought better... Hope your having a better day! |

Pagrby, will they let you put up a sign in your vehicle...tips are
appreciated or something like that? I'm betting some folks don't know how little the company pays you. |

Restaurants: 25%-50% Depending on the service. I f the service is bad I
personally hand them their tip and let them know why I was not pleased and I tell them kindly. Hopefully the next dining customer will benefit from their "head's up". Servers work very hard and long hours. Could I get another Diet Pepsi please? |
yes i leave a generous tip if the service was good..maybe your tip
should be included in the fee ..sorry that happened to you. |
Humm always and the correct percent to tip is
the min of 20% these days. But of course many still do the 15%. |
i think a sign"Tipping is not a city in China" should do the
trick. |
OF COURSE i TIP
i do tip when i go in and get served at a restaurant if it's nothing
major like i'll usually just give a buck but if we go out to dinner i try to do 10-15% and then sometimes in a big group they automatically take iether 15% or 18%... but yeah! i've only not tipped one time that i cna remeber that is because she took forever! usually the waiters attitude .. how fast they keep my drink filled will depend if i give them a good tip or a crappy one! |
tulip, you tip and flip
i look at my tax and double it because that is a little over the 15%.
