Topic: So the cops roll up on me | |

Utah isn't really all that bad, they were one of the first states to decriminalize possession of marijuana and they also have tax stamps for it...for all the good it does...they aren't really led by religion all that much. By far better than most of the Midwest states... However, on the other hand...Mormons are a bit odd (my nice way of saying they scare the **** out of me), the religion itself is made up of several different religions all combined into one book. Little bit of Christian, dash of Catholic, and why not add some Judaism on the side. You're not that bad off if all you have to deal with is a random call from the cops, I'm surprised they bothered on a call for possible smoking weed since it is only a misdemeanor worthy of maybe a 100 dollar fine in Utah (trust me, I had a few). |

While I understand the desire to roll your own, definitely less cost and chemicals, I would think it is not a great leap to assume that someone, especially and older conservative neighbor might percieve that as "Druggie" behavior and something to be concerned about.
As a homeowner if you wait until your neighborhood is over run with drug users it can be years of living in fear and tanked property values. Values that may be the only asset they have for their care when necessitated. Since I don't see confronting a younger drug user (male or female) as a safe option I think asking a police officer to check things out is a smart idea. Perhaps it is my experience of having moved all over the country; and usually developeing warm and friendly relationships, by introduceing myself to my neighbors and making them feel at home with me I would recommend it. Give yourself some time to "cool off hurt feelings" but the idea of conquering with kindness is a good one. While it might feel like and embarrassing intrusion of your privacy now you are really much safer as a single home owner having a "nosey" neighbor making sure you are "safe" and hopefully feeling they are doing the right thing calling the cops if they think you are getting "ripped off". Or including you in fun things like holidays which can be pretty lonely at times for singles. Or; and we hope this never happens to you, that you suffer something devistateing like mouth or lung cancer and need a supportive neighbor. |

She is talking about neighbors that call the cops on you continuosly until you move away, because you dont attend the church they do |

Id ask them for their search warrant Yea like a pretty, young, single, female needs to show attitude to the very people she might desperately want to come to her rescue in a hurry if some aggressive jerk of a neighbor or stranger trys to assualt her or rip her off. |

That is a whole different story. I would then become very serious about documenting how often they have made unsubstanciated calls by talking to the public services officer and getting copies of all calls made to your residence and the facts documented. Believe me judges take very seriously waste of public services. If you happen to be privey to other neighbors or prior tenants if you recently purchased or rent your home; information you can get from the landlord ot county property tax records; so much the better. If you have any other proof like any written material, or invitations, or phone messages, or repeated visits ( you have a right to put up security cameras that can also be helpful) and ask for sworn statements from any witnesses you might have. Then look up your fair houseing office and let them council you about your rights. Oppressive religious pressure that creates a hostile invironment is a crime; even in Utah. The Utah bar association can direct you to and attorney to represent you to get a cease and desist order or even file discrimination charges against and individual and the church if he is acting in a capacity of a church representative. If someone is stupid enough to harrass you because of their religious priciples they are setting themself up for a civil lawsuit and you could end up bankrupting them. Probably won't get their home but you will certainly end up with enough to live anywhere you want and they will have to pay the lawyers. |

Okay, smoking a joint and shooting a gun are two completly different things... Ya think? Actually there's a bit more to the story. He was growing pot on his place and its a good bet he shoots when high. However despite pictures and a deputy having seen it, now that the plants aren't there the sheriff dept doesn't consider it important. |
