so long as 'we' can blame someone, it will never be 'our' fault -

People are just STUPID. All this talk about how we are so much better than animals and yet here is yet another example of just how oblivious people are.

This is an example of a person who would not survive in the wild because they would not be paying attention to that predator stalking them. Unfortunately stupid people bred faster than smart ones to overcompensate for their stupidity and consequent suicidal tendencies.

Oh my:smile:

I'm wondering why you are defending the worker's negligence. I don't understand it.

I am not making excuses, btw. I've worked with disabled people for many years. I know how they are. I also know how children can be.

They were at their truck, ten feet away, and it's pretty damn hard to NOT notice a bigass truck like that, not to mention the men standing right beside it getting their tools, and also not to mention seeing a huge, gaping hole in the sidewalk....UNLESS you're lolligagging and not paying attention to where you're walking!

You ARE making excuses for this girl! You're trying to justify that she did nothing wrong! One more thing, I've had plenty of elderly people in my own life and relation, as well as children, so you're not telling me anything new about them, either.

The girl should have been aware of her surroundings....YES. Hopefully she learned that

maybe it's different in other sates, but here there are regulations for construction and maintenance. My brother in law works for TX-DOT as a signal technician. He can be in his giant bucket truck RIGHT THERE where he is working and he still has to have cones around him.

Just because they were only 20 feet away doesn't matter...they left the man hole uncovered without cones or anything. she could have thought they were working 10 feet away.

even people hauling things that hang over a truck bed has to have some sort of flag to let drivers know there is an over hang

I'm walking along, lolligagging, texting on my cellphone, not paying attention....DAMN! I just stepped into a large cow-pie. I think I'm gonna sue the farmer that let his cow sh** right in my walkway! I lost a shoe because of it, too!

Gimme a break.

That is your opinion - me making excuses. I don't agree.

I think she could have been more careful but...she's a kid. They aren't always careful.

The workers were negligent.

So...negligent workers and people, being the way that they are, make for a bad situation. That's why the workers have rules to follow to prevent these kinds of situations from happening.

in the end they are all at fault. The girl for not paying attention, and the men for leaving the manhole cover open. There was negligence all around. In my town, highway workers must have the cones or warning items at hand when they remove manhole covers. If the items are not ready, one man must stay at the open area while the other fetches the items.

Both the girl and the men were at fault. Plain and simple.

YOU would think that laugh

But I do agree (not that it was my fault though lol) the girl should have been paying attention and the workers should have AT LEAST had signs or cones

flowerforyou YR

stuff happens all the time - unintentional things

I have walked into my sliding glass doors (yes they are that clean) on occassion, who should I blame, the Glass manufacturer, the glass cleaner company or me.

people are just so into blaming another soul no one takes responsibility for their actions or foolish actions (mine included) laugh I am going to sue the installers of the doors for not warning me about the chance of walking into the doors if they were kept clean laugh
