Socialized medicine is not the answer. If the Canadian system is so all
fired hot, move to Canada. Everybody bemoans the fact that doctors make
a bundle of bucks maybe you should follow some of them around for a
couple days and see the life of leisure they lead. My Granddaughter
recently had her 4th open heart surgery. The surgeon was in the ICU at
7 AM every morning to check on her, he was there again at 7PM to check
again. If you think that being a doctor is so easy, go to medical
school and become a doctor. When you get out of school you will find
yourself in debt for hundreds of thousands of dollars for student loans
that must be repaid. In addition you will have the expense of setting
up a practice. Then you have the cost of mal practice insurance which
is driving many doctors out of private practice. Doctors are human like
the rest of us, they make mistakes like the rest of us. When their
mistakes result in injury or death they should suffer the consequences
like the rest of us but frivolous malpractice law suits that only serve
to line the pockets of a lawyer need to end. Until there is tort law
reform in the U.S. this will not happen.

As far as insurance companies go, they are in business to make a profit.
If they don't make a profit they go out of business. Since when is
profit a dirty word. This country was built and still thrives on
profit. There is a need for universally affordable health insurance in
this country, but a program that is run by the government will be a
fiasco. Look at what congress did with the prescription drug provision
for Medicare. A program where the insurance companies would band
together to underwrite the program seems to be the best solution in my
book. If you want a totally screwed up system that benefits no one then
let the government run it. For every doctor you will have 25
bureaucrats shuffeling paper and collecting a salary that will drive up
taxes.

The Canadian system of health care would work just fine if greedy
corporations would stop throwing a wrench in to the gears. The problems
have little to do with it being government run. There are external
forces trying intentionally to ruin our health care system solely for
profit.
Doctors should get paid well for their services but shouldn't get in to
medicine to just to make huge profits in the first place. If you are a
doctor your first concern should be patient care and you should be
rewarded for that. If money is your motivator then maybe you should get
in to politics or become an accountant.
Insurance and pharmacuetical companies are nothing short of unmasked
bandits holding people for ransom. The money they spend lobbying
politicians to protect their interests is hideous. The bottom line is
all that matters.
People will spend everything they have to stay alive and healthy. They
know this and will gladly charge the hell out of them until there is no
more. Once the money dries up, **** ya! Your no longer of any use. Next
patient please.
I have a brother and a few friends that have worked in American
hospitals and have seen first hand how little value your lives have if
you don't have a fist full of dollars or a good insurance plan. Sad
state of affairs. I hope we never follow suit here in Canada.

When I had my lung surgery, I saw the Dr at 7 in the morning and at 7
pm! He would do surgery 2 days a week for 3 or 4 hrs. In between time,
noone seemed to know where he was. They would page him when they needed
him, and it might be an hour later before he would show up. Where was
he? I have no idea. If I had to guess it would be at the Golf course,
the construction site of his new home, or the one other time I saw him
was at his office. He charged $554 dollars to talk to me for ten min.
Ive never seen or heard from him since. As far as he knows, Im dead! He
never checks, never once did he or anyone from his office call,
nothing!Cost to my Insurance company for all this $37,000 dollars!
Respect or pity for him, NONE!!!!
Cost of his medical School, No idea, but he followed in Daddy's foot
steps and I doubt he owes anything in Loans!!!

Oops I forgot!
What he did for me. Took a third of my right lung. Said it was Cancer,
knew too much to listen to me tell him I didnt think so, because it
responded to antibiotics!
Final diagnoses, after scareing me death, and removing my lung! Not
cancer, but instead he removed a hermatoma!!! Didnt need to come out and
what was really my problem to begin with was walking pneumonia!
Treatable with antibiotics, surgery not needed. Sue him? Thought about
it, been advised to, but the anger involved would eat me alive and
consume my life for at least ten years!
Not worth it!! Not to me, others think he would settle sooner!
The anger would consume me though, and Im not interested!!!drinker

Some of the best trained doctors are trained in India. My doctor in my
old town here was east indian.....great doctor, thorough.....lol he used
to get a kick out of me because I would diagnose myself and ask for the
correct antibiotics. Of course he always had to check me first.....but
I was always right cause people always "know" what's wrong......also one
of my favourite books are on diseases~~ ok Im weird like that!!laugh
