That would depend on what exactly "broke" on your toilet-

If it's just a flushin' issue, then you might just need to change out the flapper valve or some of the other parts in the tank. You can go to Home Depot and get repair kits for cheap and do it all yourself if that's the case.

However, if the toilet and/or the seat's cracked because of Aunt Edna and her ginormous heinie, you're simply gonna have to get a new toilet. And that's when things might get a wee bit interesting. laugh

Anybody can buy most of the parts you need at a home center including the book that tells you how to fix it!

If you have to replace the toilet, which is not that difficult really...just do NOT forget to buy a wax ring and use it!!

just sayin...

I always get an extra wax ring...just in case...

Well I can't fix a rainy day, but leaky faucets, an occasional hose, replace toilets, replace faucets, I can deal with.

You can also go to Habitat For Humanity Restore and buy a toilet for about 10-25cents on the dollar of a new one.

And check out a book from the public library for free. Sometimes even video's.

I do recommend going to a high traffic store if you are going to buy a wax ring seal because if it is old inventory it will not work as well. A good seal is very important if you do not want water damage in your floor.

If you are in a rental property I would not recommend changeing more than the ball and flapper without written permission of the landlord. You mess it up you can be evicted and sued for damages.

Also you can not put intact fixtures in your trash. If you decide to break them up do so very carefully because the porcelean shards can be razor sharp.

Depends on how broken the toilet is. I mean if it's just a mere flushing/running water issue, then yeah...Home Depot or Lowe's has what you need and it's easy as pie to fix.

If the toilet is backed up beyond anything you've ever seen, you're gonna have to call a plumber because there might be an issue with the main pipe (roots from trees, etc.).

If the toilet is broken in half or exploded for whatever reason, I'd say you're hosed.
