Do I See Her?
You ask if I can see, the woman next to me Oooooo you bet I can! I feel her gravity, pull'in so hard on me She makes me feel like a man! I'd love to sway her, and finally lay her Out on the beach in the sand But I can't do it, I just say, "Screw it!" I know you don't understand {chorus} I really I love her I don't wanna hurt her I don't understand what to do Wouldn't it be better if I never met her and we never shared the love we knew Lyrics and music by Abracadabra 7/2/2009 Inspired by Kalunda's "Why?" Not bad, not my genre though. What kind of recording setup do you have?

Not bad, not my genre though. What kind of recording setup do you have? Recording set up? I have a $10 computer mic plug into a 10 year old HP Pavilion. The sound card is whatever came with the computer 10 years ago. The guitar is a classical nylon-string. I'm using a program called Audacity as the sound recorder. I'm recording in mono of course. And only at 128kbp because I'm on dial-up and wanted to keep the file size small. It's only a 2.4 MB mp3 file. I just wrote this song tonight inspired by Kalunda's poem and only practiced it a few times before recording it. The performance is a bit choppy I imagine. But then, I don't seem to get much better with practice anyway. It's just a goof-off song. I'm more of a lyricist than a music write. I have very limited knowledge of music and find it hard to create new sounds. I just do whatever comes to me. I try to be orignal, but I guess that's pretty hard to do. Western music doesn't seem all that flexible to me. But then this is probably due to my own limited knowledge. But I do know about the wheel of fifths and all that. But it still seems to be limited to me. This whole thing was done in just E, D and A. That's about as basic as you can get I guess. I really wish I could learn to be more creative with the music end of things. I should break down and find a music teacher around here somewhere. I like to write songs, but my lack of knowledge in music holds me back. |

I like to write songs, but my lack of knowledge in music holds me back. If you are interested pick up a book on musical theory (really doesn't matter which). And brush up on basic chord structure, which is another book...all in all a pretty cheap and easy way to learn. I taught myself how to play the guitar (six and seven string), bass guitar (four and five string), and had help learning the keyboard. As soon as I move I'm going to get some gear together and start recording, which is why I was wondering about your setup as it actually sounds pretty good. Audacity is good for simple mastering and leveling, I used that before I ended up getting a complete studio-esque software collection. I have three different programs I run a track through to get it mastered completly...tedius more often than not. The guitar sounds crisp, I figured the mic part out as you can hear the distance seperation between it and the guitar but it is faint. Sounds really good for the setup. |
